Does anyone know of 2015 dates for Snowdrop events in Germany, Holland or Belgium yet?

Quite understandable - some events are announced very late and so the race is to the speediest. Remember the distress last year when it wasn't known whether the Gala was going ahead at all until almost the last minute- at least now we know when the Shaftesbury Day is going to be.

That's fair enough and the lack of a suitable new venue that prevented the Gala being held in 2014 might well still apply.  But the pool of Galanthophiles prepared to travel the country in the middle of winter is not that deep and any clash of events is best avoided.

We tried to find out what was happening with the gala and nothing much was forth coming so Pam made a judgement call . I'd prefer it if they didn't clash , but this is were we are at .

Hi what's this gala everyone is talking about?

The Galanthus Gala was an annual event organised by snowdrop nurseryman Joe Sharman.  It took place around mid-February and ran annually from 1997 (I think) until 2013 but did not take place this year.  It became very popular with Galanthophiles in the UK and elsewhere and attracted around 300 attendees with tickets often sold-out very quickly.  The format was a morning of talks, followed by a sale of snowdrops, lunch and a visit to a snowdrop garden or gardens in the afternoon (the latter two each being optional at extra cost).  The venue was typically a private school in the vicinity of the garden to be visited.

There was no Galanthus Gala in 2014, ostensibly because Joe could not find/negotiate a snowdrop garden for the afternoon visit that had not already been visited in previous years.  It is unclear whether there will be a Gala in 2015.

Edit: It was later announced that there will be no 2015 Galanthus Gala.
