I found this Lewisia (Columbiana?) by an alpine lake in northern California. The clump of leaves (without the flowers) is about 4 inches by 4 inches. I have had it growing in a pot for 1 year. (I will attempt to attach photo; end-of-post expandable?)

Although it certainly looks like Lewisia columbiana I haven't heard or read of it occurring as far South as California before.  A quote here from Brian Mathew's book "The Genus Lewisia" (Christopher Helm/Timber Press 1989).

  "Reports of L. columbiana from further south, in southern Oregon and in California, are almost certainly based on misidentifications. One logical explanation is that these records, or at least some of them, refer to hybrids between L. leeana and L. cotyledon which, judging by the hybrids which I have seen in cultivation, bear an extraordinary likeness to L. columbiana being intermediate in leaf width between the narrow-leaved L. leeana and the broad-leaved L. cotyledon. Certainly these two species do occur in the same region and mixed populations are known; L x whiteae is one such natural hybrid. Some records of L. columbiana in California may be referable to L. congdonii which is not dissimilar in flower although the leaf-rosettes are considerably different"

A few Lewisia from the greenhouse today between heavy hail showers (can this really be nearly June?)

Firstly a couple of Ashwood Lewisia cotyledons, a yellow and a magenta
