Title: Pink perennial 'WYSIWYG'
Post by: BryanEmery on January 28, 2012, 06:49:42 PM
I received some seed fom this in the seed ex. I understand they will be HIGHLY variable, but does anyone have some example pictures? I requested it based on some pictures I saw some time ago in a lecture, but am not really sure if these are the same as what I was expecting...

Bryan, I will email Stuart Pawley to see if he can shed any light on the matter.
It may take some time to get a reply.

I posted pictures last year.  The plants were grown from SRGC seed in 2010.  The flowers were not pink and only one of three plants was perennial.  If you look at the list of meconopsis threads it is the eighth one down.  One had its single flowering stem broken accidentally and the plant died.  The other two flowered and were the same colour.

Thanks for your help! Roma I was worried your plants may have been the 'wysiwyg' seed... Not what I was hoping for, oh well

 A reply back from Stuart:
Meconopsis 'Wysiwyg' comes from Jim Forbes near
Cupar; I've never met up with him. About 3 years ago
he sent M. grandis pink form and a photo, the latter I
sent to Evelyn Stevens - it was looking more like a napaulensis,
1.5m, but is perennial; seeds are not grandis-like. Next year I
gave it a name, a name which was not universally understood!
The name .........has been adopted.
I have had one or two germinations this
year, so I don't think it is sterile, though I don't think Jim is
propagating from seed; so it is all from the same plant, and
my hope is that members will get it established. I would not
expect it to be very variable.
   Hope this helps, Cheers,  Stuart

Thanks Maggi!
I look forward to seeing them.  With a name like wysiwyg I would have expected wide variation, but I guess not...

For any not familiar with wysiwyg ( what you see is what you get)
