These links to Dr Deno's "Seed Germination: Theory and Practice" and the two supplemental books are free downloads at the USDA National Agriculture Library online site. I know this book is out of print and nearly impossible to find. I hope this information is useful.

The books of Norman Deno are in the Public Domain so they are free for download.

National Agricultural Library Digital Collections
pdf s to download are linked to on each of these pages from the US site :

Norman Deno carried out germination trials of many species. This  a useful search point for such matters:

Links to Deno's papers  given   in the previous post....
also  see  link to Ontario Rock Garden's Seed Guide

The websites of Kristl Walek and Gabriela Costea are also useful ....

I have a copy of Deno second edition plus the first supplement to the second edition. Don't all rush but I can try to look up individual items if you email me via Messages. You do need to know the codes to work out what is being presented, however.

I used the free site some years ago regarding some of our native plants. I found the site very useful.

Another very useful site for germination advice is onrockgarden.com which is the website of the Ontario Rock Garden Club. Very quick and easy to use.

Magnar Asparka also has a very useful source of information on his website. He gives information on whether seeds needs sowing in warmth or in cold and how long each one took for him to germinate. Go to http://magnar.aspaker.no/  (http://magnar.aspaker.no/) and then select "Sowing methods" from his menu on the left. He lists many plants I've not found info on anywhere else.

Given the current political situation in the USA I wonder if we should all make sure we have copies of these downloaded (including a copy hosted on the SRGC website if this won't infringe copyright)?

I believe it to be the case that Deno's paper, with his permission, were now copyright free.   Will check this - good suggestion, Tristan .

Dr. Deno's information is usually  my first place to look for germination advice.  I use his extensive list as a base to which I add more information.  About 700 additions that include an additional 300 species so far.

Thanks, Maggi, good idea to have these here. Unfortunately, the first link doesn't work, but the 2 supplements are fine.

There is some information of Native American flower seeds  here :

Klamath-Siskiyou Native Seeds:  Native Seed Germination Chart

"It can be difficult to find information regarding seed germination for native plant species. Through our own native plant propagation and growing experience, as well as long-term seed germination experimentation, we have developed a seed germination chart for species we often have in our inventory. This chart specifies the pretreatment needs for seed through cold-moist stratification (chilling requirements) or heat treatment, for natural or artificial seed germination, as well as recommendations for planting seed outside for natural seed germination. Germination rates can vary so your own personal experimentation is encouraged!"

Thank You so much, Maggie, for sharing those links.  I have printed coppies of all 3 books; but the

PDF files are going to be much easier to use.  I combined all 3 into 1 file.  I adjusted the page numbers to conform to the

text; and rewrote the bookmarks as index tabs using Acrobat X  full version.
