Title: Gladiolus aureus seed advice
Post by: anita on October 16, 2011, 02:20:45 AM
Hi,
I've received seed of Gladiolus aureus and was wondering if I should plant now.. Bearing in mind it's mid spring in the Southern Hemisphere where I garden, or should I wait until autumn (March)?

Anita, those are super precious seeds because of their rarity. Keep them in a paper packet in a coolish place until sowing in March 2012. If you sow them now most probably they will not germinate at all. Or worse, germinate to be wiped off by summer heat.

Thanks for your advice, Alberto. I knew the seeds were precious hence my concern about the timing. I'll put them down in the cellar, which is cool and dry, until March. Anita
