Perth was glorious yesterday with a bright, warm spring day.
The benches seemed a little lighter than in previous years, however quality of plants maintained. I don't recall all the details (should have taken a camera or note book!!), however -
Cyril Lafong was awarded the Forrest for a Soldanella villosa 'alba' (I strive to keep plants alive never mind attaining perfection - Cyril is a class apart as there were other similarly great plants from his stable),
Stan da Prato won the Middleton Challenge Trophy for most 1st prize points in Section 1,
Mike Hicks won the Perth Salver for most points in Section 2 [Stan and Mike are becoming something of a double act, as they seem to be winning the cumulative prizes at almost all of the shows - when Mike gets into section 1 next year fur may fly!],
Stan da Prato was also awarded the Cox Trophy for best rhododendron,
Susan Band won lots of prizes including Masterton Trophy (best primula) and Duff Pize (best section 2 plant),
Graham Catlow was awarded a Certificate of Merit for a pea in section 2 (other Merit awards went to Cyril Lafong, John Lee and I think Susan Band),
and RBG Edinburgh were awarded a Silver for their exhibit,
Trade stands included Harperley plants who had travelled up from County Durham - good to see different stock/nurseries,
and the Fig flapjacks deserved a Forrest.
Please feel free to amend if I've given wrong attributions or missed anyone out.

It wasn't so much that I won lots of prizes, it was the Primula maximowiczii that won all the prizes. I only had that and a Dodecatheon entered, both of which I had dug out of the ground the day before and put in newly bought pots. Not much energy expended. Pleased though ;D

if only we could get different nurseries ::) I would like to see various nurseries on rotation coming here so we could get different plants.
-
Mark, the problem is not the selection of nurseries, the real problem is not having enough disposable cash to buy all the plants that we want from the nurseries that are there. ;D :) ;D
-
I only had my Iphone with me so these photos are not great.
I just have photos of the Certificate of Merit plants. Sorry didn't take a photo of Cyril's Forrest medal winner.
I hope no one minds if I start with mine (Lathyrus vernus) - you can not believe how amazed I was to see this next to one of my plants. :D Especially as it is one that is so easy to grow. could have put this in the 'I'm So happy' thread
Lewisia tweedyii (Cyril Lafong)
Androsace vandellii (Cyril Lafong)
Tulipa tarda (John Lee)
And the best plant in section II
Primula maximowiczii (Susan Band)

Well done Graham. When I look at Cyril's plants it makes me wonder why I continue to bother ;D

Thanks David,
One day there will be a new master - it could be you :)
I know it won't be me.

I did spot you in the distance, Angela, and I had a wee word with Maureen, Helen and Carol... but you were either shopping or watching the dog show... the golden retrievers were lovely , weren't they?
Apologies, by the way, that neither Ian nor I managed to get photos of the RBGE display. :-[ :-[

Buying plants and watching the dog show ;D came how and took one look at my old man, got the brush out and gave him a groom. That's my golden retriever I am talking about not the other old man in the house.

Fantastic plants, beautifully photographed.
Enjoyed your photos immensely. Thanks

Many thanks Maggi, some smashing stuff on the benches.
-
As Frazer said, there were fewer plants on the bench than might have been hoped for but it was still a lovely show. Julia Corden and her Gang worked hard, as ever to give us all a good day and the pleasure of the very large hall, even with its rather odd lighting, is that there is plenty space so it never feels crowded.
-
Thanks for taking the trouble to show all these lovely plants, Maggi. Disappointed I couldn't be there to see them in the flesh. Ah well there's always next year. see you at Nottingham.
