new topic as I don't know if it goes with Onco...
First flower from this group is iris lineata, in the bulb frame, in pot
-
Beautiful, Fred. Always wonderful to see the lesser-grown ones.
-
Exquisite Fred !!
-
Fred, try to grow a division outdoors directly in the ground. I am growing I. stolonifera, I. lineata and I. darwasica successfully and I think you will also be able to grow them, maybe in Lyon, with a rain protection like polycabonate roof or something more esthetical according your marvellous garden.
-
I grew I stolonifera and hoogiana outside for three years with no rain protection. They were very happy and increaced untill the third year when stolonifera went backwards. The first two years it rained every day in july, the third year was much drier. :-\ I have divisions in pots which have stood outside in the open since August and are growing happily.

Will do next fall...

Out here, Iris korolkowii is preparing to open a second flower.
-
My mouth is watering looking at all of these beauties thanks :o :o
Fred your photos are magnificent
-
I will just ditto my previous post about the photography. Fred is a grand master photographer!!! :o :o
Plus the flower is absolutely divine.
-
Superb Iris korolkowii Luc!
Fred, your pictures are (as usual ;)) out of this world!
Fantastic grown plants, it is a pleasure to see such rarely cultivated species!
-
:o :o
Great display Fred and Luc!
What is the size of the flower of Iris afghanica? big like Oncos?
-
Beautifull pictures Fred, Luc, absolutly fantastic.
I hope to have a flower on afghanica and lineata next week :)
Luc do you know if this is Iris korolkowii "var violacea" or "Sylphide" which is a regeliocyclus cross, of korolkowii. It looks like my plant which came from Pottertons 10 years ago. In Jenny Archibalds list last year she suggested that the purple plant they had was a hybred.
Leonid Bondarenko also lists a purple korolkowii. Maybe Tom could shed light on this?
Miriam, afghanica has a flower about 3/4 the size of gatesii, it is bigger than acutiloba, in the flowers I have seen.
-
I can't help with further info on the korolkowii Peter - it's origin is Leonid Bondarenko though. :D
-
Its a small world Luc ;)
-
Hi Peter. Here is a pic of Sylphide I got from Janis 4 years ago. I'd say Luc's is
korolkowii, check the pics on SIGNA http://www.signa.org/index.pl?Iris-korolkowii
Not sure if the purple is pronounced enough for violacea.

From where do you have the information about 'Sylphide'?
Knew 'Sylphide' (='Aphrodite') as cross of Tubergen where Iris gatesii and Iris lortetii were given as parents introduced in 1928 (so no regeliocyclus but Oncohybrid - see for example ASI yearbook 2006 or Arilrobin). When I ordered it I received a plant similar to this John showed. ::)
Please have also a look here: http://www.smcallister.com/library/descendant-lists/aphrodite-desc.html

Thankyou Hans.
The information my about 'Sylphide' was a hybrediser in the UK suggesting that purple flowers which resembled korolkowii might be a hybred of it called 'Sylphide'. Thank you for correcting the information.
-
Thanks Peter,
as I know 'Sylphide' never was registered, so I thought possibly another plant was registered under this name (would not be a very good idea in my opinion).
-
From what I have been able to learn the original Sylphide OH was distributed prior to the mid '60s
and later Van Tubergen distributed the currently available Sylphide which is most likely RC or RH.
This is what Janis now sells.

My mother had 'Sylphide' along with 'Artemis,' 'Dardanus,' 'Thor' and a few others from a nursery called R.E. Harrison, in NZ's North Island. This was in the mid 60s. 'The 'Sylphide' she had was almost white, with red/brownish veining, as one might reasonably expect an iris with such a name to be.
-
Thanks Lesley, that would fit better my mis information
-
Here are I. hoogiana Alba and I. hoogiana Deep Purple from Janis
-
Yet to flower hoogiana in any form.
Very striking John
-
The purple hoogiana is stunning!
Here is Iris lineata (many thanks to Rafa :D) which seems to grow well here (compares to other Regelias).
-
beautifull Miriam !
seems we have the same clone ;) ;D
-
