Here is the first flowering with me of Ismene amancaes. I took a picture in the morning of the bud and in the evening it was open! It is another member of Amaryllidaceae coming from South America.

Wonderful!  I'm quite envious.  I've lost amancaes twice over the least 30 years.

Has anyone ever heard of Ismene 'Festalis' setting seed?  Someone sent me one seed from his Festalis, and it is germinating for me.  I've never heard of it before for Festalis.  My guess is that it is apomictic. 

Years ago, when I was fooling around with some Ismene, I would occasionally get a seed or two, but none of them ever germinated for me.

Jim,

I saw that discussion, and I too was surprised that there had been seed set.  I also noted that he mentioned previous seedlings from it, which means that this isn't a single fluke but is a repeat occurrence of seed for him.  Quite fascinating.  It will be interesting to see the results of seed when they flower, and what they resemble. 8)

David just told me that he got two seeds this time, and something just ate the one he kept for himself.  So I guess it's up to me!  In fact, I think he has a couple older seedlings; but they have not bloomed yet.  I'm betting on apomictic, for now.
