I second Michaels appreciation.  THE BEST web resource for Crocus cultivars.

By some telepathic connection I came looking as Hubi was posting.  After and Alpine walk in the Valais a feast of Crocus .... I'm gonna have a good day!  Thanks!

WoW! Thomas, this is fantastic! Now we know why you have been so quiet lately. Is this a book in the making?

It is great, isn't it, Anne?

I hope Thomas doesn't mind me telling you that he already HAS written a book...
but meantime it is in German only and the translation with assorted botanical terminology is a bit tricky. But he has done it and time is all he needs!!
Hurray for Hubi!!

OOps - I opened another thread for comments on Thomas' work.

That's OK Anne!

Thanks to all, great you like it.

Michael I hope your confusion will soon disappear with my thread.
Took me just a few hours to prepare and 1 hour to post everything.

Thanks Thomas. Wonderful (but also sad) to see so many chrysanthus and biflorus cultivars that both I and my parents used to grow many years ago but that are now unobtainable. If we'd known they wouldn't always be available, I'm sure we'd have made more effort to keep them going, but when you could buy them so easily and so cheaply, who ever thought so many would vanish from the catalogues?

Thanks again to everyone, it was a pleasure for me to create this thread.
When I started growing cultivars I found it nearly impossible to find a good
source of knowledge about these plants - took me many years, but now I
have the knowledge and want to share it with other enthusiasts - perhaps
cultivar growing will become more popular now.

My book will still need some years, havn't worked on it for more than a year now,
but there is Janis' new crocus book that will soon be published and later Kerndorff and Pasche
will also publish a revision of the genus - so why waiting for mine ?

Martin you're right - too many of these wonderful plants have disappeared and I'm sure,
there are still many, many of these old cultivars growing somewhere in old gardens
and nobody realises them. Probably in 10 or 20 years the collectors will have to search hard
for 'Dorothy', 'Fuscotinctus' 'Blue Pearl' and 'Miss Vain' - hope you have placed some aside  8)

Wow, Thomas, this reference thread you have created is outstanding and so well laid out.  The photographs are both wonderful and useful and give a clear impression of each Crocus.  ID should be all the better with the information you have gathered and presented. Please put me on the list for a (signed  ;)  ) English version  :D

Thomas, what a wonderful resource this is for all lovers of Planet Crocus! It's just the bees knees!

I am very happy that I have been offered a corm of 'Kittiwake' which I lost many years ago. It hasn't arrived yet but at least I know where it is and it should come to light this summer/autumn I hope. Then there is 'Eyecatcher' which is still with me but doesn't increase much and 'Myddelton Cream' which Marcus Harvey has distributed recently. I have half a dozen now.

I have just updated the cultivar pages with John Grimshaw's photos of the lost 'EA Bowles'.
Thanks to him for permission to use these beautiful photos in my thread.

Furthermore I have added new photos of 'Brunette' from this years flowering.
Last year the flowers didn't show the typical features of this plant.

Just want to say I enjoyed looking thru your thread at the beautiful pictures.  I have a few different crocuses and love them - right now they make me smile as it's a bit dull and dreary outside.  I love that you just plant them and forget about them till next spring and then they pop up everywhere.  I do like my snowdrops but they almost need a background and crocus look great wherever :-)  Thanks for the show.
