Title: Malvern Spring Show
Post by: Rob on May 11, 2007, 11:07:54 PM
Thought I’d share a few photos from the Malvern Spring Show.

The mushroom cramp balls have been on Ray Mears survival show, as they smolder for hours when set on fire, so I was interested to see them in the flesh.

The cut-away beehive caught my eye, and I bought some local honey from them.

There was some rain overnight, but it was fine during the day. The marquee had joined metal plates on the walkways, so it wasn’t muddy.

I bought a paeonia cambessedesii from Pottertons Nursery and a trillium albidum from Avon Bulbs.

I wonder if it has been a very early season and a lot of plants have been and gone, as the nurseries didn’t seem to have as good a choice as last year.

The Kelways stand only got a silver gilt medal for their peony display. I’m sure they normally get gold. Also their plants for sale weren’t as stunning. Last year I nearly talked myself into spending £70 for a paeonia rockii, but couldn’t spend that much on a plant. This year they had some p. rockii seedlings in the display, but none for sale.

I got a hybrid cypripedium Ingrid last year, so I wanted a different one, but the Aki that edrom nursery had for sale was quite a slim stem and would need a lot of care to get it to flower next year, but was the same price as the Ingrid/Ulla Silkens that were in flower.

I did get two very nice plants, the weather co-operated and it was a huge show with lots to see.

It's been suggested to me a few times that it is the best spring show. One day I'll be there
