Hi All, here temperatures are above 30°C and the blooming is going fast. Here two pictures of Scadoxus multiflorus var. multiflorus. The first I took yesterday, the second this evening.

Hans,
All 3 are excellent. I particularly like the density of the head on the last one. Beautiful!!
-
Paul - thank you :D
I'm also happy for this old hybrid - I have it searched for a long time .
The flower looks for me more like a S.katherinae typ ....but in winter it is not evergreen .
-
Another group of bulbs that I have overlooked - what marvellous heads they have.
-
Now my Scadoxus multiflorus :
nice flower Hans
-
Stunningly beautiful plants.

Hans,
a great plant, your Koenig Albert and wonderful pictures.
I also like the unknown one.
-
Hans,
Interestingly, I have a shoot currently starting here on Scadoxus puniceus 'Magnificus' (I don't think the name is valid anymore, but whatever it is it appears different to the straight species I ahve seen elsewhere). The red shoot is about 2 inches tall at the moment, but I think thick enough to be a scape, not just a growth shoot. I think it is a bit early from memory, although I am fairly sure it has flowered very early in previous years too.
-
Paul ,
please post pics from your Magnificus !
-
Hans,
Sorry for the delay.... here is a pic of my Scadoxus puniceus 'Magnificus' bud emerging, from the 9th August...
Please click on the pic for a larger version. If pics are too large, please let me know.

Updated photo from today (18th August). I'm not sure whether people are interested in seeing this as it continues to grow?

Keep posting Paul. Hans J is on holiday at present and he certainly wouldn't want to miss these pics.
-
I know that Hans is on hols.... I just wasn't sure whether anyone would be interested in seeing the progression of the buds emerging. It wasn't a lonely plea from someone feeling unloved ;) but rather just finding out whether it was of interest to anyone seeing the process?

So they're still flowering a month after you took those photos? That's a good flowering period!!

Did the flower ever open??
How tall is the plant fully grown??

Hello George, great to have you join us 8)
.... and it'll be good to get an update from Paul about that plant ;)
-
Maggi and George,
Yes, the flower opened. I took pics as it progressed from memory, so I will see if I can go and find them and post them within the next few days. Yes, the flowerhead opened George. The flowers themselves are small and yellow, surrounded by the big red bracts. The flowerhead stands to maybe 50 or 60cm, I've never actually measured it. They flower every year for me.
And George..... Welcome!! 8)

Thanks Paul, I'm looking forward to see your photos.
This is my S.puniceus today. It did not flower this Year. Is it normal that it grows so big?

I took this picture at the botanic garden in Brussels, Belgium - the plants there must have been about 100cm tall.
-
George,
Yes, it grows like that, although I don't think mine are quite as elongated. Is yours grown in some shade? Mine in the shade do tend to get taller like your.
Gail,
That I think is a Scadoxus multiflorus (or multiflorus katherinae?) rather than puniceus? Mine are nowhere near as fancy as that in flower. ;D
-
thanks Paul, keep looking for your photos... :D
-
George,
I've just found some and prepared a couple for posting. Here are a couple from when it was fully open last year. Exactly the same bulb as in the original emerging picture..... Please excuse the background in the long shot.... my front stairs complete with their myriad pots. ::) There's myriad pots EVERYWHERE at my place. ;D
Kind of sad isn't it..... Just after 11pm on New Year's Eve and where am I..... posting pics on the SRGC. I am NOT addicted to this forum.... I'm NOT!! :o
