Here are a few piccies from Loughborough
he first is the Farrer medal plant
and the second an exhibit of 6 from one of our forumists which won a First
-
Oh, Ian, how lovely, thank you! Please tell us who grew these wonderful plants? That Farrer winning H. nobilis is super. But so are these others, looks like it was a really nice show. Hope you enjoyed your day and thanks for taking the time and trouble to come home and post for us.
-
Just love the Asarum in the six pan, and the A. delavayi too. In great condition. And that Cyclamen mirabile......what foliage! Have you an idea about the parentage of that fat pink Dionysia? I love it!
Note from my Chum, the Newt, he tells me the fat pink dionysia is D. 'Chris Grey-Wilson', the parentage is D. viscidula x freitagii
-
John Gennard was the six pan but I forgot - old age - to make notes on the others and probably spent too much time talking.
If you are into Dionysias there were some large and purrrrfect plants
When Iget some more time I will try to post a few more
-
Well done, John G, for that lovely six pan.
Don't worry about the details, Ian, it is the plants that are most important ! Looking forward to more!
-
Here's a few more from Loughborough today.
Cyclamen pseudibericum, and in close up
Cyclamen parviflorum ssp alpinum - these cylamen shown by Mike Brown,
and a lovely silver foliage Cyclamen persicum shown by Ivor Betteridge
-
The lighting in the hall is bad and gives a strange colour cast to some photos.
Asarum splendens - this also shown by John Gennard
Iris rosenbachiana - one of Jim Almond's splendid junos
A couple of Barry Tattersall's fantastic orchids
Anacamptis papilionacea heroica
Ophrys regis-fernandii
-
And just 2 more for now, possibly more later, hopefully from others, there were lots of cameras snapping away.
Primula Joan Hughes, shown by Geoff Rollinson
Fritillaria davidii, a very strange frit, shown by Bob and Rannveig Wallis
-
Bliss, Diane! Not a duffer amongst them. Did you have a good day? Car laden with silverware to drive home?
-
Super plants from another town in which I used to live.
-
Cant wait to see some show plants across the road from my house at the Blackpool show, the day after I return.
If I were choose one plant to sneak off under my jacket, it would be Barrie Tattersalls Anacamptis papilionacea
Thanks for sharing those show pics.
-
Couple more from me before I take to some chores
Cheilanthes eatoni
Narcissus jacetanus
Tulipa kurdica
Asarum
Hepatica
-
What a marvelous display ! Thanks a lot for sharing.
I suppose the Frit. davidii from Bob and Rannveig Wallis is the same shown in Harlow the week before where it won a CM ?
I hope we'll get to see even more pictures ! :D
-
I think that is the same Frit. davidii, Luc, it seems to be at the correct stage of progress from last week!
I just love that lime green Asarum, anybody know which species it is, please?
-

Yes, it is the same Frit davidii, I don't think anyone else has such a large potful!
I just love that lime green Asarum, anybody know which species it is, please?
It's Asarum trigynum album, "from the mountains of Southern Japan, an evergreen clump-forming species with patterned leaves. It is related to A subglossum but with a more tubular flower." (only knew that because I photographed the card of botanical information) - this was shown by Cecilia Coller in the new and rare section.
-
And some more orchids
Cypripedium formosanum
Ophrys regis-ferdinandii
Himantoglossum robertianum (Barlia robertianum under its new name) :see later post for this one!
-
Ah, thank you, Diane. Mrs Coller grows some very fine plants indeed. It is a lucky plant which finds itself in her glasshouse, I reckon, since they are assured of a long and happy life with this most experienced grower and exhibitor!
-
I am distressed that the name of Barlia robertiana has changed to Himantoglossum robertianum but I shall doggedly continue to refer to this sweetly scented and stately orchid as " Robinson's Barley Water" since that is how I remember it!
-
Come on then Diane, where's a photo of your fabulous Colchicum, ?
"Royal Bank of Scotland Award
best pan of bulbous plants
Diane Clement, Wolverhampton
Colchicum sovitsii " ???????
-
here's a smaller Himantoglossum robertianum, sorry the last one was too big. Perhaps someone clever can tell me how to edit my last post

Fabulous pan of Colchium szovitsii, Diane, just lovely! Much drooling here!
I have edited your post re the Barlia.
You could have gone in to Modify, clicked the Additional options and replaced the pic with the new one, or, asI did, just remove the oversized pic from the listing via the check box.
Off now to read the rest ofthe show results to see which other chums had a good day!
Yes, lots of names of good friends, seems a good day was had by all..... but that's what the shows are all about . :D
-
What a surprise Maggi to see my name up in lights. When I get over the shock of the results I'll see if I can post some pictures of the show plants. That is if you are interested ?
-
Sorry Maggi,I have just worked backwards and find that there are already many pictures on the site.I have'nt visited for a couple of days what with the preparations for the show and recovering from the effort.I don't know how everybody finds the time.
-
Surely Himantoglossum robertianum is the old name? Picture was absent from original post.
-
Congratulations to all forumnists who had these great results.
John did particularly well so it seems, but he has to admit that he had a home game and played in front of his own crowd ;D
Again many congratulations all !
-
Yes, John, more pictures, more, more, please!
-
Reposted here from the Hepatica page, for John Gennard

I'm being particularly stupid here, but I couldn't see the "modify" button - at what point does it appear and where?
???
Thanks, found it now! ::)
-
Look at any of your posts and above the message at the RHS you will see three options: "quote"; "modify"; "remove". They appear after you have posted your message and allow you to modify the post or remove it or quote from it.

-
Beautiful Hepatica japonica forma magna, John. Deserving of a Certificate of Merit, indeed.
-
Warmest congratulations to all exhibitors but especially to "our" people. Such brilliant plants and wonderful pics of them for us to enjoy. Now if only I'd been THERE for my birthday!
