Title: SRGC Shows and Events 2022
Post by: Maggi Young on July 24, 2021, 07:31:57 PM
SHOW NEWS FROM DAVID MILLWARD, Convener of Show Secretaries:

"Well, rather disappointingly another spring show season has passed in which we have not been able to enjoy the splendour of benches bulging with wonderful rock garden plants, the pleasure of meeting friends and of delicious home baking. I’m sure we all yearn for this to become the norm once again – but not quite yet, I’m afraid. With the cancellation of the Discussion Weekend, once again there will unfortunately not be an autumn show in Scotland this year.
At the time of writing, it is still hoped that the pandemic situation will have improved sufficiently to allow our joint autumn show in Hexham to go ahead on Saturday 2nd October 2021. However, as we have become used to, nothing is certain. So please watch for updated information as the date approaches; this will be made available on the Club’s website and on the Forum. If we are able to go ahead then exhibitors should note that the 2020 schedule and rules will apply, as published. For those members who require a copy then this can be downloaded from the website or obtained from me directly.
I’m ever hopeful that we will be able to return to a near normal programme next year. With that in mind, the provisional dates for the shows next year are given below. In the meantime, I hope you will continue to enjoy your gardens.
Convener, Show Secretaries
David Millward "

From Perth  SRGC Show Secretary, Alison Hogg:

Scottish Rock Garden Club - Perth Show returns in 2022

After an absence of two years, Scottish Rock Garden Club Shows return in 2022.  Perth Show will be held on Easter Saturday, 16th April at Dewars Centre, Glover Street, Perth.  Exhibitors and nurseries from all over the country will take over the Bowling Hall in what will be a welcome return for visitors, rock gardeners and exhibitors alike.

[attachimg=1]

We hope you will join us to see the wonderful displays of plants exhibited by expert growers and enjoy the chance to catch up with old friends over a cup of tea and some cakes.  Come along and indulge in some long-awaited retail therapy!  This year six specialist nurseries will be offering a huge range of alpine and other plants:

Aberconwy Nursery       Ardfearn Nursery        Ashbrook Nursery

   Binny Plants          Hartside Nursery        Macplants

(Don't forget that these nurseries may be able to bring an order to the Show for you if there's something particular you're after!)

Plant Sales are available from 11am and the show benches open to the public from 12noon when judging is completed.  The Bowling Hall at Dewars offers a large space and rest assured that our teams will be doing their best to ensure that the events are as safe as we can make them with COVID 19 still present in the community.  It is recommended that all take a lateral flow test before visiting the show and that a face covering is worn whilst moving around the show.

We look forward to welcoming you to Perth for a colourful and memorable Easter Show.

I know the Nairn Show is cancelled, was a reason given? There are no shows within reasonable travelling distance now.

There can be many reasons for the cancellation on an event - rest assured that such decisions are not taken lightly.  I believe the Convenor of the Show Secetaries Committee has messaged Ian in reply.

More on the Glasgow Show:  The nurseries attending are Ardfearn, Hartside and Kevock, plus the West of Scotland members stall, and plant sales are open from 10am as we have them in a separate hall from the show itself, which is an advantage of the new venue.

I have left it a bit late for this request but maybe someone can help. I won the Jim Lever Memorial trophy at the las Discussion Weekend in 2019 and still have the trophy. Dave Millward was awarded it at the recent Glasgow show and would like to have it. Is anyone from the Aberdeen area or anyone passing Aberdeen travelling to the AGM on Saturday who could collect it from me and pass it on to Dave? If not perhaps someone could collect it from me and pass it on sometime in the future.
