I have been given a piece of this lovely little comfry relative,whats stumping me was its spotted leaves,does anybody know what it could be.I was thinking maybe some sort of Symphytum.

Hi Davey, this is definitely a comfrey (Symphytum). I think it's S. ibericum.

I think the spotting on the leaves could be caused by a fungus or an insect laying eggs? I too have found "spotting" on comfrey? leaves and think the spots are concealed eggs but will pay another visit to see how they progress.

Having another look I wonder if the spots are Galls. A closer photo. might help and check under the leaves for any other abnormality. Also, you could try sending a photo. to the British Plant Gall Society and include good close-up pictures of both sides of the leaf.
