Title: Helleborus x hybridus 'Betty Ranicar'
Post by: Cephalotus on December 31, 2020, 12:00:34 AM
Hello,
can anyone help me with finding this particular cultivar? A friend of mine is searching for it and can't find it anywhere. To be honest, I also have problems. I thought maybe someone of you could be of help? Best if there would be a person on the continent growing this plant.

Thank you!

Mrs Betty Ranicar was a white double discovered by John Dudley who then used the double to develop his own double strains. John sold these hand pollinated seed strains from his nursery Elizabeth Town Hellebores located in Tasmania Australia.
His nursery suffered major herbicide drift from an adjoining farm and many of his breeding plants were lost. Soon after he closed the nursery.
To follow is a nursery run by Johns daughter and the nursery sells seed of a reduced number of the original ETH seed strains including MBR. For some unknown reason MBR never did seem to become popular in Europe but is an excellent parent for breeding doubles of all colours.

When I was involved with breeding hellebores I used MBR and had the pleasure of having John as a mentor.
Hope this helps.
