Here is a late Narcissus x alleniae
Gerd
-
Delicate and beautiful, Gerd.
-
Thank you Anne!
-
In the greenhouse, the first narcissus into flower this year is Craigton Chorister.
-
Such beautiful plants!
The first here is N. albidus v. zaianicus f. albus nowadays sunk in N. romieuxii I think.
-
More narcissus flowering in Cork ! N. romieuxii albidas var zaianicus, N. cantabricus monophyllus and Ian's N. Craigton clumber. All plants are flowering for the first time, grown from SRGC seed.
-
They cheer you up don't they? :D
(PS don't forget the 'ex' before Craigton Clumper if it's a seedling)
-
Ann, thanks for the reminder, they are all “ex’s” from seed. Will miss the seed exchange this year.

I had a day off today and went to Westacre Gardens near Swaffham. Some late nerines, liriopes and salvias in flower and somewhat unexpectedly a bulbocodium type narcissus. I was so delighted to find a plant of Daphne bholua 'Garden House Ghost' in their nursery which has been on my wish list for a while that I forgot to ask them about the narcissus. Does anyone know which one it is?

Curiously, it looks like N. obesus, which is usually very late.

I fell in love with this little beauty when I first saw its photo here in 2016! https://www.srgc.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13879.msg347549#msg347549
Does the name have an English meaning?
-
Google suggests it is a hotel in Kyoto...
-
Shiroi means white, so it might be referring to the pale colour.
-
I'd suggest that, since Shiraume is composed of the words for white and plum, the name is meant to be taken literally; a flower that evokes an image of plum flowers.
-
'Shiraume' means: white plum blossoms; white Japanese apricot; white-blossomed plum

-
Ah- the hotel boasts two 100-year-old red and white plum trees near its entrance. Anybody know how to pronounce it properly?
-
Aha! We're getting there! Perhaps Tatsuo or another of our Japanese members can advise more?
-
They mentioned this point already. It means white plum.(白梅)
In addition, plum blossoms are considered culturally lucky charm in Japan because they bloom beautifully during the cold season,
and I guess that the flower name are more symbolic mean than similarity.
