Hi all ,
I have fresh collect seeds from my Rhodophiala bifida plants
The plants have flowered here on begin of September

yes ...my pollination with the pink and the Oxblood form was successful :)
Maybe Oxblood X Oxblood did not work
The interesting for me is that the fruit of the normal form is fully ripe ...but the Oxblood need some time
Soon the fruits are ripe I will see if the seeds looks well ...
From what I see now are the Oxblood fruits a little smaller
Sorry ....but until now only few persons have asked for the seeds ...I do not understand :(
Are you and I the only crazy who like to grow plants from seeds ( Rhodophiala seeds ) ?

No Hans, you're not the only one : I already grow Rhodophiala bifida from your seeds ;D These are good seeds that germinated very well
I have also sown from other sources Rhodophiala montana, bagnoldii, mendocina and elwesii and Phycelia herbetii this spring !

Here are mine. I have two forms which arrived as a bag of mixed offsets. I am slowly sorting them out as individual bulbs flower. Some are Oxblood, some are a very strong more orange-red form. I wonder if the latter might be the form which is called 'Granatiflora' in America. No seed was set on any of these this year, despite the efforts of the bees (and my paintbrush). I have a few pink ones, but they haven't flowered for the last couple of years. They seem to perform better in the cold frame, covered in the summer, than they do in the greenhouse.

yesterday I have collect the seeds from my Oxblood Rhodophiala ...
The result is really interesting !
Those seeds looks quiet different from my other (normal ) seeds
They are more round and more thick ...
I have just taken a picture for comparaison
What you think ?

Is Oxblood not a vigorous sterile Triploid?

I believe that the Oxblood among themselves have not produced seeds ...but with pollinate with the normal form it has maked seeds ...
Now it would be interesting in comparison sow both seeds (until they flower ) :)
Maybe it is only steril with own pollen ?

Hi Hans,
I've come to the same conclusion that some clones are self-sterile but it may also be related to climatic conditions. The orange-red clone I first had only ever set seed once to its own pollen in all the years I've grown it. When I only have one spike on the ox-blood variety I have it doesn't set seed.
It's interesting that the ox-blood form has different shaped seeds.
