Post by: Steve Garvie on March 16, 2020, 11:20:42 PM
The first to flower here is a critically endangered Syrian endemic.

Steve, this is both stunning, and sombre at the same time! We never see Oncocyclus Iris in this part of the globe. As always, awesome photography.

Beautyful plant Steve.
I don’t grow these southern species however.

Iris elegantissima (near Yerevan). It's quite hard to capture the contrast.... maybe sunnier days would help

And the latest onco, I. auranticia has opened for Easter. Quite statuesque compared to the rest!

Very nice Rob!
I wonder if your plant is a different clone to mine?
I got mine as a division from PC Rare Plants a few years ago.

This also came via PC/Rareplants. I'm not sure if they are seed-raised by them or all by division?

Thanks Rob!

I believe they are divisions. It is likely that our plants are the same clone. I want to try raising some of these rarer species from my own seed but the first step is getting different clones.

The next difficulty will be trying to get them to flower at the same time!  ;)

Very nice Luc!!!

The yellow form of medwedewii looks very similar to a plant I grow as paradoxa mirabilis.

Both are clearly different Steve. The standards of mirabilis are nearly white to name one thing.

Thanks Luc!

I have a plant which I bought as a form of paradoxa mirabilis called Isabel’s Beauty. It should flower in the next few days. The standards are pale yellow.

Below are a couple of older images. The plant isn’t as yellow in real life as the first image suggests as the photograph was taken in dull light. This clone was apparently found in Ardabil province, Iran.

EDIT: This plant should be known as Iris medwedewii var. leucantha

Hello oncocyclus Iris lovers! I know this thread hasn't been active lately, but the incredible pictures many of the forum's participants have contributed made me want to grow these amazing plants even more. At the moment I only grow Iris atropurpurea, quite successfully. But I'd really be glad to know if anybody is willing to share seeds of his plants. Seeds of any species would be greatly appreciated, as I really love the oncocyclus section. If anybody has any seeds to contribute, please contact me! Thanks in advance.
