Hartside are gearing up for the new Show Season .... their first SRGC event for 2020 will be at the Victoria Hall Dunblane on 22nd February for the SRGC Early Bulb Day .....
note from Neil Huntley .... Hi everyone, our earlier tweet should of course have said the first outings we are making to @ScottishRockGC event at Dunblane and the @Alpinegardensoc Show at Pershore are February 22nd - not March! Hopefully see some familiar faces.

SRGC Early Bulb Day will be held in Dunblane, Perthshire, at the Victoria Hall, on Saturday 22nd February 2020
David Millward will talk at the event. He will give two talks based on his many travels in Turkey and Greece, in spring, summer and autumn, that will take us deep into the wild areas where the spring bulbs flourish. David is the Edinburgh Show Secretary and chairman of the SRGC Show Secretaries committee. He has won several Forrest Medal, including a couple for his magnificent pan of Narcissus obesus Lee Martin Form. David, a geologist, co-authored the book, 'Alpine Plants: Ecology for Gardeners' with John Good.
As usual at the early bulb day there will be a number of nurseries selling a wide range of plants. We hope that members will support us by bringing many plants for the 50:50 plant sale, whose sales will help to meet the costs of the event. Further information will be in the 2020 Show Schedule.

As Dunblane Bulb Day approaches I've been speaking with Beryl McNaughton about "old times" - and she has shared with us this photo, taken by Alan Thompson in around 2002/2003 of Beryl looking at snowdrops in the garden of the late Betty Hamilton. Betty, another great supporter of SRGC, was a keen bulb grower and especially fond of galanthus. Beryl says that she is sure she can "blame" Betty for her addiction to the wee white flowers! There are many of us who were able to add new 'drops to our gardens from Betty's collection which she shared, often at Dunblane plant sales from the early 1990s. So nice to remember such a lovely person - how fortunate we are that the SRGC has lots of them!

Michael Thomson says :
"Amazing collection of plants here. Start at just a couple of £. Spotted this beautiful snowdrop Galanthus ‘Mother Goose’ - price per bulb £70. Yep, SEVENTY. Lovely, but I’m not quite ready for that just yet. The eyes desire what the pocket can’t have."

Just want to say thanks to the Dunblane folks for giving us a lovely day out as per usual. Coffee and cakes to start the day and then lots of goodies to buy.
Thanks everyone.
