Many congratulations to 'Dr Rock' - David Millward - his superb plant Narcissus obesus ‘Lee Martin’ form has won the Forrest Medal at today's SRGC Show at Dunblane. Photo from SRGC President, Julia Corden.

And to prove that there can be coincidences, look at this photo from Paddy Parmee of the Farrer Medal winning plant at the AGS Show today at Rosemoor .... :)
[attachimg=1]
"Farrer medal goes to Jim Mcgregor for this wonderful pot of narcissus bulbocodium conspicuus"
It seems to be sunshine daff day throughout the UK!
From
RHS Joint Rock Committee on Twitter :
"The RHS Joint Rock Plant Committee @RHSJointRock gave an Award Of Merit to Narcissus bulbocodium conspicuous shown by Jim McGregor at the AGS South West (Rosemoor) Show.
Kew lists this plant as Narcissus bulbocodium quintanilhae. "

David's Forrest medal pot also won the Ben Ledi trophy for best European plant; he received the Glassford Sprunt trophy for best bulbs in a 19 cm pot with another, smaller, N obesus Lee Martin.
Peter Semple took the Quaich for best non European plant with a fine pot of Tecophilea cyanocrocus.
Alan & Jane Thomson won the Spiller Primula trophy against stiff competition with P. Jackie Richards. Their Hepatica Millstream Merlin received a merit certificate as did Sue Simpson-Watt's Anisotome.

Can I bring this urgent note to the attention of readers and show-goers:
The following plants were taken from the showbench by mistake - Narcissus Ballet Girl, Senecio leucophyllus. Synthyrus stellate, these were in a cardboard tomato box belonging to M& H Taylor - please can they be returned to Edinburgh Show. (that's on 13th April)

I spotted Don Peace in one of the earlier photos - good to see him back at a Scottish Show - not only that, but look - in Don's photo of the Forrest medal winning plant and David Millward - he's managed to get a huge smile from the winner!!

I think my odd posture is due to the fact that I was taking a photograph. This one perhaps:
[attachimg=1]
Here is the entire pot:

Beaten into second place by the pot deemed best-in-show, I was still very taken with this small daffodil shown by Ian Christie.
[attachimg=1]
Unfortunately I could not find the label, if it had one, so could not identify it. It's not far removed from the wild daffodil but it seemed a bit more petite and the outer (i.e.non-trumpet) petals a bit more yellow. Can somebody tell me what it is, please.
-
I had time to take a walk up the river and came across this community garden, which was part-funded by the SRGC according to the notice.

Great gratulation to this wonderful narcissus! In germany there is an famous classic singer and entertainer, Mr Gunter Emmerlich, looks similar to Mr Millward! :-)

This shot that I took on the way up river has turned out well:
[attachimg=1]
And I saw these stragglers on the way back
[attachimg=2]
I had to use the zoom on my camera to take these. I see now that they have an unusual feature that must have caught the attention of my subconscious brain, although I was not consciously aware of it at the time.

Here is a blow-up (only for galanthophiles):

Named after a person or a location?
Oh, never mind, found the information here: http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=6472.msg179026#msg179026 (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=6472.msg179026#msg179026) - and that it's Douglasbank, apparently.

Sandy Leven has prepared a report of the Forrest Medal plant from the Stirling show from David Millward - with photos from Stan - http://files.srgc.net/Showreports/StirlingForrest2019.pdf (http://files.srgc.net/Showreports/StirlingForrest2019.pdf)

Thanks to Sandy Leven - who, with Stan's help, has prepared the report for the Stirling Show - the first time Sandy hasn't been there himself! Thanks to Sandy and Stan for their collaboration on our behalf.
