Title: Anemone biflora
Post by: Hans A. on April 18, 2008, 04:02:06 PM
Does seed of this plant need a special treatment to germinate - or is it ok to sow fresh seed in pots directly and keep them outside. Seed should be just covered very thin with sand or grit, right?

Thanks a lot.

Hi:

In your area you will have to stratify fresh seed, it is too mild to encourage germination of such a cold climate species.

I seem to remember than when Archibald lists the seed he adds the note that it will only make the germinating cotyledons in the first year.

Yes, they do. I made this experience also. Unfortunately the cotyledons were the only leaves I ever saw, the seedlings did not come back the next year.

I just sow some seeds of this species some days ago, outdoor.

I'll tell you what will happen  ::)

there were some nice ones on the show benches this spring but in my dull climate I find they get long and leggy and basically are spoiled. They need lots of sun to keep them compact
