I was out spreading mulch in the garden and finally looked up to discover not only had the first blue meconopsis opened, but a white one showed up too. Surprise! I have no idea from which seed packet the white one came.

Meconopsis punicea -first flag of the year unfurling.

Meconopsis delavayi -growing in a clay pot in a shaded frame, it has remained compact and has 4 flowers this year (one last year).

Meconopsis horridula flowered for the third year in a row. I suspect it is a series of offsets that keep this particular plant going.
A nice, pale "fertile blue" meconopsis added some variety to the darker blue mecs.

Meconopsis rudis or ?horridula
I sowed seed from a pale blue and a white with pale green leaves and no spots.
First two to flower
-
Meconopsis baileyi alba double.
I have had Meconopsis for many years, but have never had a Meconopsis that becomes double, is it common?

Seems to happen from time to time - but not always as pretty as yours, Thorkild.
This blue one was just pictured by Chris B in a garden she visited -

Thanks for the information. Maggi

The people who have the garden I visited seemed to think it was a perennial. There were certainly two double flowers on it. They have saved seed apparently. Don't think they had a name for it though...

Meconopsis hybrid
From my garden today

It's is a wonderful & long Meconopsis season this year with temperatures and rainfall just about perfect. At a friend's garden today I spied a row a small-flowered dark blue (forget the picture) which was really quite lovely. I asked the name and he said 'Mrs. ___', I said 'Mrs. Jebb', no 'Mrs. something else'. I still say 'Mrs. Jebb'. Am I right?
The Mecs in question are in the back row, save for a pair of stray large-flowered ones.

I'm not often in this thread my climate doesn't allow growing Meconopsis, however i admire the photos posted here.
John your shading frame is excellent, is it a whole "house" or just a 1/2 span?
-
It's a full lath house at my friend's, mainly to protect from wind gusts as the garden is close to the crest of a hill. And deer!
Here are 2 pix. Last week and the last photo taken after a huge Rhododendron rex was moved out in 2015 I believe.
These structures are highly recommended in Nova Scotia, one can even gain an extra hardiness zone within.

Hi John,
Yes the back row looks like 'Mrs Jebb' they are small and look straight at you, 90 degree angle.
