With a trip to Arduaine, Benmore and Logan under our belt in the last few weeks, it was time for a short trip down the road to Bargany. This garden is famous for it's azaleas which with the beautiful sunny and warm weather were at their very best. A bonus is that all of them, apart from the Japanese varieties, are scented. There must be thousands of them. You could smell the perfume all over the gardens....actually, it is a huge estate. I can now appreciate the work Stan does to post his pictures from the shows. It took me 2 hours in photoshop and resizing with many a muttered curse as things went wrong.
Prepare for a marathon session. I have a 32" 4K monitor so I can see all the detail. Resizing them down makes some look a little"dotty" as detail is lost.

I'm exhilarated by the exercise, Tom! Must admit I know nothing of this place ... so it's been especially good to see from your photos how beautiful it is.
No shortage of colour and with a great "backbone" of good trees - quite a place!

The policies date back to the late 17th century and the landscaping started in about the 1820's
"The Rock Garden, or Hermit's Garden, lies to the west of the main drive opposite the woodland garden and pond. It was laid out c.1927 in a hollow on either side of the Laughlan Burn. Dwarf Rhododendrons and Azaleas were planted with Cercidiphyllum, Japanese Acer, Viburnum and Primula species as well as many rock plants." This part of the garden has been extensively cleared over the past few years and replanting is taking place.The gardens are open to the public in April/May to catch the Rhods. and Azaleas in flower
What is impressive is the size of some of the plants.... a few of the Rhododendron luteum are about 20 feet tall.
I can't remember if they open in Autumn when the azalea foliage will be spectacular. We went to the gardens outside the official opening times once and met the Lady of the house busy with some gardening. When she realised we were keen on plants, she was perfectly pleased for us to walk around.
