Title: Mystery iris
Post by: arillady on August 28, 2014, 11:19:43 AM
I grew this iris from seed but the chooks (chickens) have scratched the tag away. Any suggestions

With the long stem and such developed leaves at flowering time i would say Iris bicapitata rather than I. lutescens subsp subbiflora syn I. subbiflora which has more compact growth habit.

I lutescens has mostly one flower per stem while bicapitata has two, the second blooms after the first has  finished,
in the photo one can notice the second bud coming through.

I know I had Iris bicapitata seeds and the second flower is now out - thanks Oron.  I do have a Iris subbiflora x revoluta cross ex Harald Mathes but that doesn't have two flowers at once.

Funny that I am not so good to ID it from the photos  ;D
Anyway, it looks rightly as I. bicapitata

It is easy to make  ID from a photo, Angelo - if it is yellow, it is a narcissus!  ::) ;D ;D ;)
