Is Nifter a miniature, Fermi?
I don't think it fits as a mini, Anne,
more like an intermediate or standard jonquil type, raised by Glenbrook

Insofar as one can judge from a photo it could well be N fernandesii (based on Blanchard's descriptions). N.cordubensis is a possibility - which some people place under N. fernandesii.

Thanks Gerry
I found the petals a little to wide for Narcissus fernandesii
never seen so wide petals in Narcissus fernandesii

Roland - Narcissus seem to be very variable. Have a look at Blanchard p82. For N. cordubensis see Blanchard in AGS Bull. 66 [3], Sept 1998, p 330. I think I would go for N. cordubensis in the case of your flower (though not with complete confidence!).

Yesterday I visited a friend of mine, Doug Bryce, with whom I've been exchanging daffs for years; he wanted to show me some of the Div 6s he's got in flower;
First an unnamed one from Glenbrook Bulb Farms  (I didn't get the number)
The Alliance
Betsy MacDonald
Tweedle Dee ( Div 5)

Hi
A few flowers that are currently flowering in our daffodil beds.
I have not been posting this year because I have upgraded my computer and software and been away on holidays. I have not figured out how to make some of my photos less than 200kb. It was all so easy with my last lot of software.

Hi Graham,
Great to see your photos again.  By the  way, "holiday" - what's that?!!

You may well find that by reducing your forum photos to a max. of 760 pixels wide they will come under the 200kb limit  and retain good quality.

Fermi has been concerned that Leslie has not been getting to see many split cups this year so it is time for a few split cup photos.
Fermi came to Canberra for the Centenary of Canberra Spring Bulb and Camellia Show and visited Keira Bulbs daffodil paddock yesterday.
Maggie saying "holiday" is better than saying we went shopping in Hong Kong!

I don't think any of our guests noticed the CCTV cameras at all but it did not matter because they were all extremely well behaved. Fermi quite liked the Champion miniature so he will be saving up now.

;D ;D No, I quite believe their eyes will have been firmly on the flowers!
If they were all well behaved, there  must have been enough cake to go round as well, eh? ;)

The average SRGC type is always sociable in the presence of  sufficient cake.....

Hi
Maggie the Horticultural Society probably fed him up as they were looking after the visitors. They usually put on a good spread for visitors.
A few photos of some colourful identities.

Anne
If I don't say whose entry it is then it is usually Keira Bulbs entry. We are very good at breeding top quality exhibition reverse bicolor miniature Div 6's. It would have been a tough decision as our miniature Div 5 was very good as well. Personally I preferred our miniature tazetta. Bob Spotts from California who was on the judging panel also liked it. He also liked our new Div 3 miniature but the other panel members did not like it.
There are two miniature daffodil hybridists in Canberra-Keira Bulbs and Lawrence Trevanion. The other competitor and hybridiser of note in the miniatures was Kevin and Mary Crowe from Hobart in Tasmania who were visiting Canberra for the Show.

Hi
Lawrence and I are both well known breeders of miniatures and the Crowes are well known in Tasmania. There are several more noted growers of miniatures in Tasmania-Rod Barwick of Glenbrook Bulb Farm and Mike Temple-Smith.
A few more late flowering seedlings for you and one from Rod Barwick. The new miniature 7W-P is something else but then again so are some of the other seedlings.

If you opened the photo of the triandus and jonquilla hybrids and the N. cordubensis you would see two very nice jonquilla hybrids. The white I suspect is fertile but I am not sure about the white one. The triandus hybrids are also very nice.
I have also posted a few more photos of seedlings and species. No descriptions and no names.

Hi
It was remiss of me not to post a photo for Lesley given her fondness for split cups!!
I have been busy using pollen from the Show on what is out at the moment. Hopefully I will get some miniature split cups in a few years.
Paul, had you visited the 'umble farm I would have had lots more photos as we have CCTV cameras!

Just wonder if you also suffer from narcissus fly pest?

Hi
No we don't. We don't have bumblebees either. We are relatively pest free. Our biggest problem is the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos which would destroy our daffodils if we didn't net them.
It is a narcissus wonderland but not often seen other than through our photos and at the Canberra Spring Bulb and Camellia Show where we often exhibit. We had around 30 daffodil enthusiasts through recently and that is probably more than we have had through in the last 20 years. Fermi was one of our visitors so you need to coax him into telling you what he saw. It was past peak time but there was still plenty to see because of the scale on which we grow our miniatures and intermediates. You have to go up and down the rows to look at the miniatures because they are not obvious from beyond the beds. To some extent they are hidden by our standard daffodils.

Graham,
lucky you! ;D  I lost so many bulbs in the garden by narcissus fly that it is good to hear there are almost pest free places.
The Cockatoos are certainly an annoyance but you can simply take countermeasures.

In case of the narcissus fly - the infestation happens furtive with the result of disappearing plants and no flowers the next season.
Usually one finds the grubs by annual lifting of the bulbs. This is not possible in a natural garden as well as spraying pro-actively insecticides which I consider as  contraproductive from my point of view.

Therefore my thoughts cycle already quite a time how I could establish a natural predator population (which kinds?) but I don't have a consistent clue yet.
Any ideas from the forum members?

Narcissus bulbocodium ? ssp obesus ?
grown from Seedex seed a number of years ago - grown in shade so the foliage isn't as recumbent as usual :-\

Armin,
For predators - I recommend a Forum-Membermeeting - keep a sufficient number of fly flaps ready and here we go!
There is a good number of excellent 'flycatchers' among them - see Forum notes - and you'll soon get
rid of your problem.
If  these 'predators' will stay too long there will be a new problem concerning board and lodging.

Hi
Our season is rapidly coming to an end now. We have had hot and extremely windy weather this week. We still have lots of bulbocodiums, some choice fertile jonquilla hybrids, triandus species and poeticus flowering so there is still some hybridising going on.
The intermediate sized 7Y-Y usually has 3 florets and they are usually perfect. Now all I need to do is change its colour so it is more valuable.
However, no split cups for Lesley!

Gerd,
it seems I scored a own goal ;D I did'nt mean the two-legged kind of predators scurrying with a fishnet... ::)
But, on the other hand, why not invite skilled 'flycatchers' for help ;) ;D
