According to Robin White's monograph it is a sport from 'Somerset' that was developed by Richard Hyman in the 1990s. He doesn't expand on what he means by 'developed' but there are quite a few variegated cultivars eg Briggs Moonlight, Carol Mackie, GK Argles, Gold Sport that seem to be natural mutations.
