Primula auricula 'Ring of Fire'
« on: November 24, 2013, 03:13:09 PM »
A friend of mine is looking for Primula auricula 'Ring of Fire', but it seems no longer available anywhere.
Does anyone have an idea who might be selling that cv?

I checked to see if Graeme and Hilary Butler of Rumbling Bridge Nursery stock that cultivar, but it's not on their list - may still be worth asking them though :

I don't think Herman Laporte carries it either - not on this past year's list, anyway .... http://www.daphnes.be/auricula.pdf

Also tried list of Angus Plants in Scotland : http://www.angusplants.co.uk/   - no luck there either .... seems like a difficult quest, Wim

In Auricula growing parlance it's classed as a "Fancy'  and not many Fancies have made it into the Trade. I think you'll do well to find it Wim.

Ring of Fire is listed as a yellow/brown gold-centered alpine on National Collection holder Les Allen's mail order list. He is contactable on leslie.allen@mypostoffice.co.uk.

I'm surprised at that since Ring of Fire does not conform to the Florist's description of an "alpine" Auricula.

I thought a link to a photo of the plant would be of interest to those who don't know what it looks like ( me , for instance!!)

http://www.auriculaandprimula.org.uk/saltford_2011/saltford_show_2011.html   - described as "a seedling " but it looks the same to me  :-\  :D

Maggi, Auriculas are always regarded as 'seedlings' until they are entered in a show, are seen to be different, and win a card. At that point the breeder is invited to name it.
