Galanthus label!
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:25:32 PM »
Found a label in the garden today, It reads Galanthus imp. Ginn's form. No Snowdrop nearby and nothing in any of my books. Anyone any ideas? The plant ought still to exist in the garden but need to know what to look for.

Likely to be Galanthus 'Ginns Imperati' I think, Eric.  A biggish plant, bit like 'Sam Arnott' and it has a wonderful scent.

Quite a few pictures in the Forum... hers' a link to a couple by David Nicholson....

Actually, has a wonderful scent especially noticeable when a few flowers are brought indoors. A very nice plant.

Brilliant. I have found a decent clump of it and now I can put a label in which might just survive. Now all I have to do is find the clump of Brenda Troyle which I know I had.
And before anyone says anything about my poor labelling, we found one of our labels a mile down the road one day. You tell me how it got there.

I expect that's where the crow dropped it, Eric  :)
We see crows playing wih all sorts of "toys" that they have stolen around the neighbourhood. As well as their aerial games, they seem to enjoy rolling things down the roof of the house opposite and racing to see who catches it first. Some of the objects used must make a dreadful racket inside the house!

"My" blackbirds are too busy moving the mulch around the garden all the time- via the paths- to have free time for label thieving! :-X

Magpies we reckon are our culprits, although to fly a mile away with it seems rather excessive even for them. Found what I think are Brenda Troyle, just waiting for a friend to bring me one of her flowers to look at.
Boy am I glad that we only have half a dozen different Snowdrops to keep track of.

Anyone who can supply me with a "Ron Ginns" (or a "G R Ginns", but not Ginns Imperati) snowdrop as per the Book P.159  can look forward to something nice back.
