This promises to be a fascinating insight into the genus cyclamen and its species with something for all SRGC members.

Members are invited to contribute to the day by bringing as many pans of dwarf bulbs and early
flowering alpine plants as possible. Every contribution increases the value of the display for others.

Please bring as many pans of bulbs and alpines as possible. Plants will be grouped into `classes' on the morning between 9 am and 10 am. The usual rule of one pan per class per exhibitor will be waived. No prize money or points will be awarded.
Space will be available for cut flowers of plants which members do not want to disturb in the garden. Please bring your own vases for cut flowers.
Members may also stage small exhibits of several pans to show variation in species etc.

Contributions are invited to the 50:50 plant sale, which will be held to cover expenses.
Members are asked to help with the teas and plant stall as this day is organised by the Bulb Group rather than a local group, and the Bulb Group’s activities benefit all members.

Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd June 2012 - The Royal Highland Centre, Ingliston, Edinburgh is the venue for the Gardening Scotland Show.....the SRGC has had a marvelous team of volunteer who have constructed a super disply at the show which has been awarded a silver -gilt medal. Well done!
Over the weekend there will be members at the stand to answer questions from the public, who, I understand, are gathering in the customary large numbers around the display,  taking lots of photos! 8)

SRGC   DISCUSSION WEEKEND and SHOW    DUMFRIES 29th - 30th September
http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=8113.0

A note for those attending about the workshops proposed:
Ann Sinclair has sent these notes about the various workshops to be held at the Discussion Weekend:

At the Discussion week-end at the end of the month the Reivers have organised three workshops.

Rosemary Cox has put together a workshop on 'Colour in Alpines'. She will look at how a plant makes colour (petals/leaves/fruit); how to mix colour and how to match the colour of the chosen plant material. For this workshop you will need * watercolour paintbrush

 * water holder – a small jar or similar

 * paper towel

 * Paints – small selection (Cadmium red (an orangey red); French Ultramarine (red blue); New gamboges (a red yellow); Windsor yellow (a bluey yellow); Permanent rose (a blue pink); Windsor blue (green shade). Burnt sienna, raw sienna and alizeran crimson are useful.

You could also bring ( though these are not essential): lens or magnifying glass; pencil; plant or flower. Rosemary will bring the watercolour paper and her selection of plants/flowers.

Ian Young’s photographic workshop is on 'Taking Plant Portraits'. Ian hopes to help members get the best from their digital cameras using them to take plant portraits at the Show. He promises to help the struggling ‘where appropriate’. Bring your camera!

There will be limited places at these workshops. Book a place at Registration on Friday or Saturday morning.

Our third workshop is an outside event – so pray for decent weather.

Ian Christie will lead 'Re-making the Bed'. First take a bed well past it’s sell by date, add a chunk or twelve of Locharbriggs sandstone, mix in some interesting plants, sprinkle liberally with Christie expertise, a dash of heckle – and we will be cooking by gas! The Cairndale has let us loose to revamp one section of its garden and we hope to leave a fitting reminder and thank you to them by constructing at least the start of a alpine bed.

Now if the Reivers had done their job correctly they would have organised one workshop to follow on after the other – but there ain’t enough hours in the day to fit it all in – so you are going to have to choose.
