Platycrater arguta

(1/1)

Kristl Walek:
I am trying to gauge the hardiness of this species in North America---can anyone growing it in a cold climate please advise of winter lows it can tolerate?

Thank You,

Kristl

Gerdk:
Kristl,
No problems with Platycrater arguta. I live in Germany near Cologne (Köln) at an elevation of about 100 m, just a little bit above the Rhine Valley. The USDA Zone maybe between 7 b (minimum - 14,9 ° C) and 8 a (-12,2 ° C).

Kristl Walek:
Thank you Gerd----I do know it is being grown in various parts of Germany....but most of northern North America (and Canada) is not that warm. I do not expect it to be hardy to -35C or even -40C (where I live), but I would be thrilled to think it could overwinter in -25 or -20C.
I am asking because I would like to give my seed customers an idea when I list it.

Anyone grow it in this cold of an area?

Kristl
