Rubus chamaemorus seeds
« on: August 22, 2011, 02:28:12 PM »
Hey,

I am searching seeds of Rubus chamaemorus. This plant is very rare in now in the wild. I have a piece of land and I want to try this plant. Maybe it can establish here. Does someone have some plants and can collect seeds ?

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
ConiferFan

I hope someone can help you, ConiferFan. It would be exciting for you to establish a colony.

Hi,
If you have no luck with a personal offer of seed and want to go the commercial route, 2011 harvest of (wild collected) Rubus chamaemorus seed has just been packaged. See my web site at gardensnorth.com

Hopefully you have a boggy area on your land!!!

Hey,

Thanks, very nice photos !
There are some nurseries that have this plant for sale but seeds are cheaper because I do not want only two or three..
I have looked at gardensnoth.com but there is only Rubus parviflorus listed ?

I have a separate link on the website for edible wild berries--- you will find the Rubus chamaemorus under "Wild Berries" or use the search feature, under "genus" for all the rubus species. It is there for sure.

I can confirm that you will findthe seeds on Gardens North site... you will also find a link to this useful paper on the germination of Cloudberry seeds...  http://pubs.aic.ca/doi/pdf/10.4141/cjps79-010  from the Canadian Journal of Plant Science.

Plenty of R. chamaemorus around here in North Norway, but too late to collect seeds. I have frozen berries, and I wonder if the seeds in them will still be viable. I could dig up some plants and send to you if you like. But I dont know if they are easy to transplant. Be aware though that you need both male and female plants to get berries. And the plants are impossible to tell apart when they are not flowering.

I could probably also send you some plants but with the same problem as Magnar. I doubt that they are very difficult to transplant if the location is right but I have never tried

Hello to all,

I am new o this forum. And actually join just because on my hunt on these couldberries and this old threat.
I am from Slovakia (middle Europe) and these berries are not native to my region and also none nursery around have plants or seeds. I really would like to grow these berries and add it to my collection, so I would like to ask those forum members that have access to some plants if they will be able to send them to me? I would like just few or I would be happy just for one male/female. Of course I would like to pay all the costs connected with packaging and posting.
I have tried several times sowing seeds bought online from amazon or ebay but they have never germinated even with help of GA3.

thank you for any help

Daniel
