Fred, try to grow a division outdoors directly in the ground. I am growing I. stolonifera, I. lineata and I. darwasica successfully and I think you will also be able to grow them, maybe in Lyon, with a rain protection like polycabonate roof or something more esthetical according your marvellous garden.

I grew I stolonifera and  hoogiana outside for three years with no rain protection. They were very happy and increaced untill the third year when stolonifera went backwards. The first two years it rained every day in july, the third year was much drier.  :-\  I have divisions in pots which have stood outside in the open since August and are growing happily.

Just opening today, another specis from Afghanistan.... Iris afghanica, with unusual colors

I hope to have a flower on  afghanica and lineata next week  :)
Luc do you know if this is Iris korolkowii "var violacea" or "Sylphide" which is a regeliocyclus cross, of korolkowii. It looks like my plant which came from Pottertons 10 years ago. In Jenny Archibalds list last year she suggested that the purple plant they had was a hybred.
Leonid Bondarenko also lists a purple korolkowii. Maybe Tom could shed light on this?
Miriam, afghanica has a flower about 3/4 the size of gatesii, it is bigger than acutiloba, in the flowers I have seen.

I can't help with further info on the korolkowii Peter - it's origin is Leonid Bondarenko though.   :D
