I watched a pair 'carry' sticks to a very tight nest site. All sticks fell yet they tried over and over

Saw first frogs on 2010 on Saturday

goodness me two typos in one sentence  :(

When I took this photo I saw the bee but not the spider - a close encounter but the bee got away  ;)

Our Jackdaws are still struggling after the coldest winter since the 70s and now when it finally started warming up, the deepest snow fall of the winter so that all farmland, their main food ,is deep in snow, so they're now foraging along the outer tide line on the fjord. We have a roost only a km away and it's always a joy to see large flocks coming in at dusk doing aerobatics over the house on their way. Their not so playful now, trying to conserve energy. Up to a couple of weeks ago we had around 500 passing each evening, pretty well the entire population of this area.

This morning a real sign of spring, an Oystercatcher doing a fly by, the first of the year and about two weeks late.

Just saw something I hadn't seen before. A pair of bullfinches sitting in a Hazel, nibbling the emerging catkins - their beaks were yellow with pollen! I know they take buds and cause a lot of damage to fruit trees, but this was a new one on me....

Even more astonishing! What other creatures mate at speed?
