Dear all,

Thanks for your warm welcome.  I have just realised that there is already a thread on Cyrtanthus opened by Hans.  Cyrtanthus is commonly known as "Fire Lily" as it is said that fire would encourage bulbs to flower.  I did set my two pots of C. ventricosus in fire in late spring in 2 successive years (i.e. 2004 and 2005).  On both occasions, most bulbs flowered about 20 days after fire.  I am sure Cyrtanthus is not the only genus which responses to fire as I have heard that other South African bulbs, including certain species of Boophone, Hessea, Haemanthus and Lachenalia also respond to fire.  Has there any member in this forum tried the fire method for flowering their bulbs?  What is the result?

Hi Luar,
I've tried the fire method with a couple of haemanthus that don't want to flower.  Sad to say it didn't work for me.  I tried the flood method next and that was also unsuccessful, it will be plague and pestilence for them this year....
