Start of Year 8! IAN YOUNG's BULB LOGS
« on: January 07, 2010, 01:08:07 PM »
Ian's first Bulb Log of 2010 was posted online yesterday :
http://www.srgc.org.uk/logs/logdir/2010Jan061262790217Bulb_log__0110.pdf

This is his eigth year of bringing you his weekly musings.... Ian is touched, as am I,   by the number of emails we have received lately from  readers of the diary, thanking him for his efforts: many of these are "Lurkers" here as well, of course, and so grateful thanks to you all for your kinds words, which the BD much appreciates ..... he'd tell you himself.... but he's outside checking his glass houses! :)

I must just say that as a "Newbie", I have learned far, far more about Bulbs from reading Ian's logs than from any book or anywhere else for that matter.  And indeed I learn even more from the immensely practical advice and discussion in the ensuing forum threads.  I hold my breath at the end of December each year just hoping that he will continue !

Many thanks Ian.  If I have not offered many posts yet it is because I am too busy soaking up the information on both your own, and all the other threads on the Forum......

Richard,

Thank you, it is reactions just like yours that keeps me going on.

I also think that our forum is the most remarkable resource and comunity with such combined knowledge and experience - nothing else to compare with it.

As various Australian Forumists show us their gardens, suffering with the heat and drought... with Lily plants crisp and frazzled from the heat, I must apologise on  the BD's behalf for some of the photos, which some readers may find distressing, of a very hardy Lily in this week's BulbLog.  :-X

Lily has been ecstatic in the snow.... you should have sent Tara across for a wee holiday. Lily runs about, uses her nose as a snow plough, rolls endlessly and generally behaves like a happy puppy. Funny how the snow makes so many dogs extra lively and palyful , isn't it ? I do know a few that won't even go out in it for a minute longer than they have to, but Lily is a snow lover of the first order. Great to see her enjoying herself.... take our minds off what happening to those frozen plants in the greenhouse! Luckily most have a protective cable under them .... but not all and there are a few dodgy looking potfulls  :P

Some lovely Narcissus growing in your greenhouse Ian, was just wandering if you have named any of your plants after Maggi.
Thanks for another year of beautiful photography and sharing all your Knowledge with us.
