Hi ,

I'm to share with all of you my first pics of my Amaryllis belladonna ( it is flowering for me the first time )
 ;D I'm really glad because I was thinking it is no possibly with flowering here in Germany  ;D

Hans  -  Lovely shot with the Nikon.  

What do you think are the requirements for flowering this Amaryllis? It flowers in Ireland so obviously heat is not essential.   I have some bulbs of 'Johannesburg' which I may put outisde next spring, it has never flowered.  The books say to plant them with the necks exposed, I don't think that is a good idea in this climate. The same was said of Nerine bowdenii but I planted it down a foot and it now flowers regularly but in mid November. Perhaps some supplemental watering in the the early autumn would move the date ahead, it has been luky not to get hit by a really hard freeze.

I have stored the Amayrillis bulbs in my greenhouse under the tables - dry from May - August .
On 01. August I have watered this pots ( really wet ) ...than I wait ....on 15.August I water it again ....now they flowers ( a second bulb has also start )
My bulbs of Nerine bowdenii I treat as summergrowers- they start always with flowering in fall
With N.sarniensis I use the same treatment like the Amaryllis - but first watering on 01. September !

congratulations! So I can hope that mine are flowering, too - some day. I watered them once this month and now I am looking everyday...

Different Nerines have buds now, so soon there will be Nerine pics. I keep them dry douring the summer as A.belladonna and most of them start to show buds beginning September.

Congratulations, Hans.
"Belladonnas" are a favourite summer bulb here in Southern Australia as we have a similar climate to where they come from in South Africa. In late January or early February you can often come across these stunning blooms simply erupting out of the parched soil - and the perfume!
You have done well to flower it - you obviously have some skill in doing this! Now I know where I can send my excess seedlings! ;D

Hans, I have not told it has not flowered! but I am agree with Fermi with sending all my seedlings of belladonna (about 400) to you!
