Fritillaria seed please....
« on: December 08, 2008, 01:19:36 PM »
I'm probably too late but I've only just found this forum.
I grow lilies from seed (from RHS Lily Group). Mainly trumpet lilies, many different crosses( all beautiful ). I've bulbils left over from my repotting, and spare bulbs. I also grow Fritillarias and, would be interested in exchanging for Fritillaria seed. Ideally chinease Frits, but would consider other unusual choice species.

Hello, Andrew, welcome to the Forum.... you'll find lots of folk here with similar interests and you may well be lucky with some seed swaps  8)

Dear Andrew,
On the forum you could try:
(i) Susan Band
(ii) Michael
(I hope they don't mind me naming them here.....Maggi? Advice?)
I know it's the obvious one, but you know of the Fritillaria Group of the AGS ?  http://www.fritillaria.org.uk/

....the one that signs off 'F for fritillaria, that's good enough for me' (I guess he grows fritillarias?) though we usually marvel at his wonderful Madieran flowers.

Ah, THAT Michael! Well, you, know, he never speaks about Frits... don't know if he does grow any... and I'd be surprised at any of the Chinese types surviving the climate in Madeira... :-\

Try JJA seeds (Jim & Jenny Archibald). Although they don't seem to be using their website at present, you can get on their mailing list. Their seed list is simply fantastic & they usually have a wide range of frits. Despite what has been said on this forum, in my experience they are very reliable with mail order.
Gerry passed away  at home  on 25th February 2021 - his posts are  left  in the  forum in memory of him.
His was a long life - lived well.
