Iris for identification
« on: April 02, 2022, 11:46:17 AM »
I obtained this dwarf rhizomatous iris many years ago. The flower max height is about 15 cm. The label is well lost and I think (????) the name given was Iris lacustris. But is it? Ideas welcomed.

It is not I. lacustris for sure Dave.
I would say I. ruthenica but others may be of different opinions.

I agree -- Iris ruthenica.  I have I. r. nana, grown from seed from a APS collection from Napa Hai.  It's a great performer, very tough.

The leaves, with their semi-pleated look , seem right for I. ruthenica. Not sure that pleated is the right word, I mean they have lines which almost look like folds - I was trying not to mention stripes, in case of virus connotations!

An older photo of my Iris lacustris. These very rewarding plants are one of the smallest species of
all Irises and grow of thin and wiry rhizomes.
