« on: May 21, 2020, 05:11:41 PM »
Those  lucky  enough to have  attended  any  of the  wonderful Czech International Rock Garden Conferences  will have  visited the  quarry  garden of  Milan Halada - this  has now   been re vamped  and  opened  to the  public....
Karel Lang the  Czech Saxifraga master, has  posted these  photos  on  Facebook with  this  comment : " Jiří Špaňhel announced the opening of the Skalničkářské Garden in the Prokop valley on the Prague 5 cadastre, under the professional supervision of Milan Halada. (Among the rock workers also known as halad's garden) The footage comes just after the reopening last year.

first  images... there  have  been considerable  changes ....

A forum search for Milan Halada  will bring  up various  references  to his  garden and  to plants from seed collected  by  him  being  grown by others - and  some  pix from his  garden.

Maggi that brings back some great memories and as you have just said there are lots of changes so that’s a nice reason for us all to go back . They have put a lot of work into the hard landscaping . I really liked all the gardens and it was also great to meet the owners and see all there wonderful plants.

Angie  :)
Yep that’s Helen Mcgregor, she always has her hands behind her back  ;D

Wow! It certainly has been updated! The older pics bring back happy memories.
I wonder if this garden will be on the list for the 4th International Czech Rock Garden Conference?
cheers

So nice, to see the new pictures of this outstanding garden. Milan and we are friends since more than 30 years,
we met ourselves many times and exchanged plants and our experiences in cultivation, He was always very
generous with distributing plants and a visit to his garden always ended with a box of goodies.
So we were worried about the future of this place after the political change, and were relieved to hear that Milan
is now employed as administrator of this unique place by the community of Prague.
The attached picture is from a visit of the Czech Rockgardener Brigade to Waiblingen in June 1992:
From left Josef Jurasek, ZZ, Joyce Carruthers, Elke, Zdenek Obrdlik, myself and Milan Halada.
