Celmisia seedling (non)development
« on: April 07, 2020, 06:50:04 PM »
We have sown eight Celmisia species this year and have had one or two germinations of all of them. Two species were from Jelitto, the rest from the SRGC exchange. Only one species has germinated in quantity (Celmisia spectabilis ssp magnifica). This species also developed well enough and quickly enough to prick out six weeks after germination. All the other species have produced a pair of seed leaves but virtually no root after the same time period, They obviously find no encouragement towards root development with the growing medium and watering regime we are using. Does anyone have any suggestions about what we might be doing wrong ?

We have occasionally seen reluctance to develop roots with other sowings but this has been sporadic and has not been repeated in any of the several hundred things that have germinated so far this year,
