Diapensia - Shortia 'Leona'
« on: March 21, 2020, 07:08:55 PM »
S. 'Leona' is a lovely hybrid of S. uniflora and S. galacifolia by the late great Steve Doonan of Grand Ridge Nursery.  It seems to have captured the best traits of both species with thanks of course to Steve's keen eye.  My first purchase from Steve in 1987 at a VIRAGS memorable Winter Study Weekend.  As we don't see it around so much these days we propagated a few for friends as a safeguard.  Not so hard to propagate in 50/50 live green sphagnum and pumice in mist.

Cloistered like the rest of the world.
