"From Dave Millward, Convener of Show Secretaries:

The Edinburgh show, set for Saturday 4th April 2020 has been cancelled. This follows the latest advice issued by government regarding the current Covid-19 pandemic. We were all looking forward to a good spring show at Fairmilehead and we are sad to have to take this action, but it is for the best I'm sure.

With the cancellation of the Edinburgh show, all the Scottish spring shows and the joint AGS/SRGC show in Hexham will not now take place. A decision on the autumn events will be made later in the year when we have more up to date information.

Unfortunately, the cancellation of the shows programme will have significant financial consequences for the nurseries who provide us with such a wonderful range of plants for showing and for our gardens. Though we will not be able to visit their stalls at shows, can I encourage all of us to consider ordering plants from those nurseries that have mail-order or alternative arrangements. Please visit their websites to see what 'goodies' are available.

I hope all members will stay well and do enjoy your gardens this spring."

The RHS

661671-0

Following the Government update on 16 March and the ongoing situation with COVID-19, all RHS Shows, Garden Events and school visits will be cancelled with immediate effect until 30 June 2020.  RHS Gardens remain open, with a number of increased precautionary measures in place.

This is a worldwide unprecedented and challenging time for so many people and of course the health and safety of our members, visitors, exhibitors and staff remains our number one priority.

With the Government no longer supporting mass gathering events due to the impact on emergency services and heightened actions to encourage social distancing, the following RHS Shows will regrettably no longer take place in 2020...
#RHSLondon Spring Launch & Orchid Show, 7-8 April #RHSLondon Botanical Art and Photography Show, 17-18 April #RHSCardiff, 17-19 April #RHSMalvern, 7–10 May #RHSChelsea, 19–23 May #RHSChatsworth, 11–14 June

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

"In response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), all four Gardens of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh – Edinburgh, Benmore Botanic Garden, Logan Botanic Garden and Dawyck Botanic Garden - are temporarily closed to the public.

The welfare of our staff, volunteers, students and visitors is at the forefront of our minds and we are taking all necessary precautions, following Government directions and guidelines and monitoring updates on the COVID-19 outbreak.

CANCELLATION - GARDENING SCOTLAND 2020 19th March 2020

"Following the latest Government advice surrounding measures to combat the spread of Coronavirus, we have no option but to cancel Gardening Scotland 2020.

This would have been our 21st anniversary show and preparations for it were well advanced, however the safety of our visitors, exhibitors, volunteers, contractors and staff must always be our first priority and so there is no alternative but to cancel this year’s event.

We know that many of you were looking forward to the national celebration of growing and gardening but we are confident too that you will support our decision

Gardening Scotland is a charity and we are a small team, all of whom are now working remotely, so please bear with us while we plan our next step. To help us keep our phone lines open, we would please request that you don’t call us: further information about potential postponement and our refunds policy etc will be communicated next week."

Richard Green of  SRGC  had  already  commented that " I am organising the SRGC Stand rota, and think it will be a bit difficult to fill the slots this time round, don't you? Stan and I have scored our attendance out of our diaries already... "

RHS are cancelling Britain  in Bloom this  summer and Keep Scotland  Beautiful  are doing  the  the same with Beautiful  Scotland.  Kew and W'hurst Place aren't  RHS but no surprise they are  closing  to the public  as RBGE has with its four gardens.

I wonder if the chief medical officer has considered the use of beechams powders in the first symptom stage of the virus? They work for me. I am in no way connected to the firm nor is anyone I know. Anything is worth a try.
