Narcissus July 2019
« on: July 07, 2019, 06:22:23 AM »
Winter is peak time for the hoop petticoat daffs in our garden.
Here's a new seedling which appeared this year with a wide bowl shaped corona

First  flowers  can often be  a bit "wonky" fermi - let's see what it  does  in future years.

Yes, Maggi,
I'll keep an eye on it and see if it does any better next year.
Here are a couple of Lawrence Trevanion's "Baby Talk" series of hoops
1 & 2) 'Untshen'
3 & 4) 'Quen Dor'
cheers

Here's a new seedling.
Nothing special except it's an early flowering deep yellow! Usually yellows are later in the season,

A very common tazetta here in Victoria is colloquially called "Straws".
According to Daffseek this is a synonym for 'Minor Monarque' though I'm not 100% convinced  :-\

I love those  pale  tazettas!
What  are  the  spiny stems behind the early yellow  seedling? Some  sort  of  rose? (Clearly  in competition with Errol the  Echidna  for  spinyness!)

Hi Maggi,
that tazetta, "Straws", is in great abundance around here! As Monty Python says "You'd better learn to like them, that's what I say"  ;D
The spiny stems belong to Rosa rugosa 'Scabrosa' which unfortunately I allowed  :-[ to grow on its own roots and it has "run" right through this and other beds  >:(

Another one from Lawrence Trevanion: Narcissus "Winter Colours #2" (10YY) - one of a collection of hoops he was selling last season. I bought 10 but last year the slugs devoured most of the flowers! This one seems to have bulked up and is another early yellow hoop  :)

Narcissus 'Viristar' (Hillstar x Emerald Sea) another one from Lawrence Trevanion.
One bulb planted in 2015 has clumped up nicely

This green daffodil came into flower but I can't find a label!
Most likely to be one of Lawrence Trevanion's hybrids, possibly 'Virivest' ('Westholme' x N. viridiflorus)

I love those viridiflorus crosses, Fermi! Have you noticed if any of them are fragrant?

This is an unusual hoop petticoat daff with petals longer than the cup - can a Div 10 also be a Div 2? :-\
I think it might be a seedling of 'Ianmon' (another of Rod Barwick's Little Detective series) which is close by
"Redesdale Star" (working title ;D ) is back with two flowers this year,
