Crocus March - 2019

We had 2 cloudy days so no new pictures were done and due return of some frost (tonight up to minus 9 is proposed) I worked with pictures.
Crocus adamioides was published by HKEP and it is distributed in NW Turkey
Crocus akdagensis is another HKEP species from Ak-dag in Turkey
Crocus alexandri is old favourite growing in Greek Macedonia near Mount Falakro where it blooms side by side with C. chrysanthus and both occasionally hybridize.

Crocus bifloriformis was published by HKEP from NW corner of Turkey in Asia but could be found in European part of Turkey, too
Crocus antherotes is one of my favourites from W coast of Turkey (near Bergamo) - corm got from Dirk.
Something similar is Crocus fauseri from very SW corner of Turkey
and then follow 2 unidentified/still unnamed gatherings from more to the East in Turkey
Crocus biflorus gr. S of Balikesir  and  another from Crocus biflorus gr. W of Lake Van

And the seeds are now “allowed” on BICON so can be imported - if someone has seeds to spare!

In this entry 4 various acquisitions of typical Crocus biflorus from Italy - localities in picture captions.
The last picture - still  unidentified, but most likely Crocus mawii, but could be concinnus, too - both are so similar that I most likely would not separate them...

Now 2 species
The first 2 pictures are of exclusively beautiful Crocus bowlesianus, collected just at locus classicus (or close to it, because localities given by HKEP are very, very approximate and not always correct) but it completely respond with description
And last 3 represents 3 different acquisitions of Crocus caricus, the best of them comes from Labranda, but locality is almost (or completely) destroyed by invasion of wild boars, who plough up the mild slopes in search for crocus corms.

The first two pictures represents Crocus chrysanthus sensu lato from W of Turkey, the creamy plant is single between yellow ones which all has the brown flushed outside of flower segments.
On next picture is the smallest crocus in my collection. It is Crocus danfordiae sensu lato (Ruda-099) from E part of area
and then and in following two entries are selected forms of Crocus gembosii - numbers given at picture captions.

The last entry with Crocus gembosii (may be some will come out later - still more than 300 shots must be sorted and labeled). On the 3rd picture is not SUNSPOT.
Today morning started with minus 7 C, but seem that day will be partly sunny, so the temperature in greenhouses will rise up and more pictures could be done again. Next days are offered around zero but cdloudy with some rain and snow. The last year at this date we had minus 20 C, and crocuses still were under cover.

Still 2 more from Gembos Yaila - the first is white with yellowish back of flower segments (last year it was more impressive)
Next is cross between Crocus gembosii with black anthers and Sunspot with black stigma.

Outside is very dark and it is snowing. The snow could and at midday when some sun is offered for few hours and again will come snowing. Not the best season to view crocuses. So I can continue to show plants from my collection.
Now I will start with Crocus mawii - both are plants received from Erich Pasche, and then one of my own selections which I regard as belonging to Crocus mawii. It is crocus of special attention for me as after publishing of my book, I got letter from H. Kerndorff that plant on front cover isn't C. mawii at all. He accused me in commercial ploy for selling of plants, what of course isn't true. So you can compare first two pictures got directly from one of author's and can see how they are different in some of key features and actually in everything but colour identical with mine. But albinos are very common in biflorus group.
Then follow Crocus mediotauricus got from Erich and my own gathering of Crocus salurdagensis.
