Pitcairn Alpines - web shop re-opens 1st April
« on: March 25, 2017, 11:54:59 AM »

Iris winogradowii

Pitcairn Alpines - Webshop opening 1st April

"Just a week to go and the webshop will be up and running for the new season. The good winter means the bulbs have been up early and are flowering well. Some of the bulbs are very popular but are slow to propagate. We are very sorry if we can't supply to everyone."
Susan and team

This year we have added a few new items that we have been bulking up but also had to remove a few old favourites to allow them to increase again.
The Erythroniums and Lilies we have been growing from wild collected USA seed are starting to flower this year . They are a great addition to our collection as they are rarely offered anywhere else.

From Susan Band :  "It’s that time of year again. Started packing hoping the weather keeps cool to help us and the bulbs. It usually takes about 3 weeks to get them all done so don’t panic if they don’t arrive on your doorstep immediately. It’s at least a week before we finish orders received on the 1st April. There are a few species that didn’t make it through this year’s hard frost in the the spring and might be missing on some orders.
Don’t forget the Lilium come later once they’ve died down at the end of September. Enjoy the anticipation of next year’s flowers from me, Adrian and the team."

It's that time of year again .... note  from Susan and Co. at Pitcairn ....

"Just to let everyone know the webshop will be opening on the 1st April for orders. Busy at the moment getting everything ready for the opening and taking pictures of some of the newly listed items.

What's happening 2019
Please look around our shop at the wide range of rare bulbs available for ordering on 1st April.

Please note for new customers most bulbs are dispatched at the beginning of August with the later dormant bulbs and lilies dispatched in September.

The summer of 2018 was exceptionally hot and dry here in Scotland resulting in the bulbs flowering exceedingly well in this spring.
More and more of our bulbs are being planted in the open ground providing them with a natural growing environment, allowing consistent temperature and moisture throughout the growing seasons.
A lot of Crocus and Fritillaria seed sown in previous years has now come to fruition giving us a lot of new species to offer this year. However they are still only available in small quantities.

Here's hoping for a good harvest in the coming season.
Happy gardening to all our customers."

A note  from Susan at Pitcairn :
Quote
BREXIT
The webshop opens on 1st April.
It still unclear as to what will happen with Brexit. We at Pitcairn Alpines are taking orders as usual but are unable to predict future trading arrangements. For those European customers who are purchasing this year we would like to treat them fairly. If subsequently as result of Brexit our trading arrangements and costs have to change we will notify you of any additional charges and give you the option of continuing or cancelling your order. If you wish to cancel your order we will refund your money.
I hope this is agreeable to all our customers that maybe affected.

From Susan.....
"Our home for the next 5 weeks 😕
We have started packing and the first few retail orders will be out in the next few days. Don’t worry if your bulbs don’t arrive immediately as some bulbs still need digging. All packing should be finished by 20th August. This year has been the busiest ever and we have started packing earlier. However we will still keep the shop open until 1st August for those who usually order late."

PITCAIRN ALPINES- notice March 2021
www.pitcairnalpines.co.uk

Spring is coming

"The webshop will be opening as usual on the 1st April. This year unfortunately due to Brexit we will not be able to send to anyone without a U.K. address.

We are very sorry for this but the requirements that have been imposed on us are too expensive and time consuming. We would not be able to have both the inspections and paperwork completed in time to avoid damage to the bulbs. This would also increase the risks of the bulbs being delayed at mailing centres.

Over the years we have come to know and appreciate all our European customers and deeply regret having to make this decision. We will miss all of you and your loyal custom. "

Pitcairn Alpines - web shop re-opens 1st April

The Pitcairn alpines Webshop re-opens for the season on 1st April - but there  is more news from Susan, too.......

A message from Pitcairn Alpines by Susan Band:
Retirement

I started Pitcairn Alpines when I was 23 and now I am hitting 60 this summer I have decided retire. Over the 37 years the nursery has taken many forms but always concentrating on the rare and difficult smaller plants from around the world. Some plants have accompanied me throughout the years and some have only made a flitting appearance. Most of the plants have originally been grown from seed with some taking most of the 37 years from first seeing them in books or talks to finally being able to offer them for sale.
Owning and running the nursery has been great fun but all consuming with holidays being restricted to the winter months. It is time for me to get out in the summer, see plants flowering in the wild and relax a bit in my fast approaching old age.
I would like to thank all my customers over the years and all over the world for supporting me in my venture. I would also like to thank the intrepid seed collectors who have made it possible to offer so many beautiful plants for sale. It has been a hard decision to take but time marches on.
The webshop will open as usual on 1st April. Over the summer additional odds and ends will be added in a special section. These will be smaller bulbs and items that appear in small quantities when I am sorting. You can either make a new order or email to add them to an existing order. Also if there are items which you would like but have sold out let me know and I can add them if I have them.
