SRGC 2015-2016 Seed Exchange No. 69
« on: June 30, 2015, 12:32:36 PM »
SEED DONATIONS  Now / AUTUMN 2015

SRGC is very grateful to all those Members who donate seed to the Exchange. The bonus of being a seed donor is that you get 25 packets of seed in the main Seed Distribution (only 16 if you are a non-donor) - and Donors are given priority in the Seed Distribution.

Please send fresh clean seed as early as possible, and no later than 31st October.

Send seed to Ian and Carole Bainbridge :
Drs Ian and Carole Bainbridge
Luckie Harg’s, Anwoth Road, Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas, DG7 2EF, Scotland.

Late seed can be accepted if a list has been sent by post or e-mail by 31st October. Please send e-mails to seed@srgc.org.uk

The seed list will be compiled on 1st November, so late seed may well not be in the exchange.

Please: Write the full name of the seed on each packet of seed, and your name as well.

Put all seed of one type in one packet.

Use small packets when possible (and avoid very big packets!).

Supply a list of donated seed in alphabetical order.

Please put your e-mail and phone number on your list in case we have any queries.

Provide comments on any new or rare seed.

Please support the Seed Exchange by donating seed each year.

Full Seed Exchange details are here : http://www.srgc.net/site/index.php/extensions/seed-exchange

All seed correspondence, lists and queries  etccan be sent to: seed@srgc.org.uk

Seed Identification : photos of named seed varieties.

This forum has a topic which is exclusively for posting photographs of named, fully identified, seeds.
The object  is to work towards as full a listing of verified seeds as possible.

We invite you to post photos of fully identified seeds to this thread, HERE

Please do not post comments or questions in that thread, or photos of seed of which you are unsure of the ID. Such matters may be posted here: http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1010.0

The photos must conform to the usual Forum restrictions i.e. maximum 760  pixels  wide and must include something to indicate the size of the seed, preferably using a background of  1mm  graph paper or a metric ruler. The inclusion in the photo of the plant name is a distinct advantage.

Wherever possible, please include the plant name in the name of the photo file and always include the plant name in the text of the post…. otherwise it is impossible to search for the image.

Thank you!

Sending seeds to other countries.

Different countries have different regulations governing the import of seeds ( and plants, of course) .  For some, such as the USA, a special permit is required  in order to receive  any seed from outside the USA.
http://www.aphis.usda.gov/wps/portal/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/sa_international/sa_travel?1dmy&urile=wcm%3Apath%3A%2Faphis_content_library%2Fsa_our_focus%2Fsa_plant_health%2Fsa_import%2Fsa_permits%2Fsa_plant_plant_products%2Fsa_plants_for_planting%2Fct_smalllots_seed

Our sister organisation NARGS, has a useful list of prohibted seed for the USA :  https://www.nargs.org/restricted-seed   USA restricted seed  listing

What are the Requirements for sending seed to Australia?

http://www.agriculture.gov.au/import/icon-icd?wasRedirectedByModule=true  Australian site for Import conditions

Some notes on Australian regulations:
Seeds can only be sent to Australia if they meet the following
 requirements:
 • They are on the Australian Government’s permitted seed list, and are
not otherwise prohibited from being imported into Australia.
• Each shipment of permitted seeds must be clearly labelled in English
with the full botanical name, genus and species.
 • Seed must be free of live insects, soil, disease symptoms, prohibited
seeds, other plant material (e.g. leaf, stem material, fruit pulp, pod
material, etc.), animal material (e.g. animal faeces, feathers, etc.),
and any other extraneous contamination of quarantine concern.
 • If the seeds require an import permit from the Department of
Agriculture, sellers must sight a copy of the permit to ensure that they
can meet the conditions for sending seeds to Australia.
 • Freight or mail shipments should have all documentation (e.g. permit or
permit number, invoice, manufacturer’s declarations and certification
where applicable) securely attached to the outside of the package and
clearly marked ‘Attention Quarantine’.

All seeds sent by the Scottish Rock Garden Club Seed Exchange to our members
around the world do, of course, conform to the regulations of each country
to which they are sent, not just Australia.

The SRGC would like to draw  readers' attention to the need  for those sending  plant seed
to other countries to be aware of the regulations pertaining to that country.

All seeds sent by the Scottish Rock Garden Club Seed Exchange to our members
around the world do, of course, conform to the regulations of each country
to which they are sent, not just Australia.

Will seedexchange.org.uk be used again this year for seedex orders? If so, when is it expected to be available? If not, where/how will the seed exchange password be used?

Also, has the new (15/16) seed list been made available online anywhere?

I apologize if the answers to any of the questions above have been published somewhere, but I've looked around and have not found this information.

Cheers,

Erik

Hello Erik,

Yes,  Seed exchange page on the main site will link to that address when the seedlist is active. That will not be for some time yet. The Seedlist is just being finished and will soon go to the printer. It will be available online when the Seed Exchange goes "live"  - it will be announced here and on the main site when that happens. The password is in the July Secretary's Pages, sent to all members who receive their journals by post - the Sec. Pages are online for e-subscription members- (though they can also find it in their  online profile pages) and those who have lost the relevant paperwork - and it will be in the printed seedlist, of course.
The Seed exchange process will be slightly different this year -  everyone using the online seed  system will need to register and  enter with their  full postal address  for instance.  This is because of new rules being implemented by the secure online payment platform.  Of course all details will be shown in the course of the the process when the time comes. There is little point in trying to explain it here - it will be quite clear when members register.

Remember that some email systems will NOT deliver your  automated  activation email etc.  at all,   or may scoop it into your SPAM filter.  Also remember that you must register anew each year.

We expect that the Seed list and Seed service will be opened later this month - we will hear from the Seed  Team.

All seed correspondence, lists and queries  etc can be sent to: seed@srgc.org.uk

Seed Information Database

The SRGC now has a member-contributed seed/plant information database.

If you have made a donation to the SRGC Seed Exchange, please take a moment to share information about the species you've donated. And whether or not you've donated seed, share information about any worthy garden plant you grow or have grown, no matter how it was propagated.

You can read about it and take part  here :
  http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=13727.0

The SRGC is grateful to Erik Fleischer in Canada for developing this system

Online Service for Seed Exchange No. 69 - now LIVE
« Reply #8 on: December 01, 2015, 12:06:42 PM »
The online ordering service of the  SRGC Seed Exchange is now live to accept your seed requests or payment for  postal seed requests.

There are some changes from previous years, caused by new rules from the secure online payment system so PLEASE  do read the notes and instructions carefully!
It is most important to note that a new registration MUST be made each year - old log in details will not work.

The Seed Exchange page of the website is found under the "About Us " button on the SRGC website.
Direct link to that web page is  HERE

Hello Maggi and Seed Team Members!
Thank you very much for your contribution for this tough job.

I've finished requesting seeds online correctly and received 2 e-mails, from 'Sage Pay' and 'SRGC Seed Exchange Request Email'.
Then I found an error on the e-mail from SRGC.

I filled all boxes in MAIN DISTRIBUTION as a seed donor - 25 boxes for FIRST CHOICE and 14 boxes for SECOND.
But there are 24 names for FIRST CHOICE on the e-mail I received. SECOND is OK.
I logged in my seed exchange page again and checked my request. There are 25 seed numbers as my FIRST CHOICE correctly.

It's just a quick report. Now I'm looking forward to receiving the seeds from you :)

Hello Tatsuo - I wonder if you changed or added a number at the last moment and did not click "update" ? That may be the answer.

The Secretary's pages are always online for all members - as was mentioned previously  and in the Seed notes. The password is in the July Secretary's Pages, sent to all members who receive their journals by post - the Sec. Pages are online  HERE for e-subscription members and those who have lost the relevant paperwork -   hint - page six !
There is also a hyperlink to the document from the notice in the Seed Ex. main page.

The Secretary's pages are always to be found on both the Local Groups  page and on the Journals page of the main website ,as well as from the forum  Notice Board area  : http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=12685.0

Maggi,

i've been waiting for the validation email and checked my spam folder but nothing found. Is there an issue with the smtp server?

Received, the server is certainly busy
