The patch is opening tomorrow ,Sunday 28th February 2016 11.00 - 3.00 in aid of MS Society. There will be some nice snowdrops on offer but  many of the specials were distributed or snapped up in 2015. This is almost certainly the last opening?

Back from a really interesting day at the Nettetal snowdrop day just across the Netherlands/Germany border. Lots of other bulbs, plants, shrubs etc on sale as well as plenty of snowdrop sellers. Lots of hepaticas and paeonias. It felt like an open-air version of the Boschoeve and Dutch galas, but colder and sunnier (Nettetal is outside, the other two inside). Sensible prices in the main, and friendly people patient with my rusty German. Its a little over two hours' drive from the Hook of Holland ferry. Well worth a visit if you fancy a change from the UK snowdrop do's. Took the opportunity to visit Arnhem/Osterbeek on the way, which was immensely moving and really the highlight of the trip.

So all in a one-day trip, Steve?

No, overnight in Nettetal + two overnights on the ferries. I suppose you could do it all in one day at a squeeze.

John Grimshaw has been in Slovenia at their first Snowdrop Festival - perhaps not  surprising that they have such an event with  the  encouragement of galanthus expert Dr Jože Bavcon, Director of the Ljubljana University Botanic Garden !

Here are the details about the only major US snowdrop event which takes place at Winterthur in Delaware this Saturday, March 12.  My nursery will be selling plants:

March 12
Winterthur’s Bank to Bend Garden Lecture, Plant Sale, Tour and Snowdrop Event

Enjoy the spectacle of the March Bank clothed in snowdrops, winter aconite, adonis, and early snowflake in flower.

Bank to Bend Features:

•   A lecture by Lady Carolyn Elwes, who will share the story of how a garden of private obsession grew into one of international importance in her 11:00 am talk, “Snowdrops at Colesbourne, Gloucestershire.”

•   Sales of rare and unusual plants by Carolyn’s Shade Garden (www.carolynsshadegardens.com), 10:00 am to 3:30 pm.

•   Guided tours of the March Bank, starting at the Visitor Center at 1:00 pm & 3:00 pm.

•   A self-guided “White Arrow” tour through the March Bank, starting at the Visitor Center and available all day.

•   Special Spring Tour Experience through the House and Conservatory available all day.

Lecture: $10 per member. $20 per nonmember. Free for Garden and Landscape Society and Garden Associate Members. All other activities (tours and plant sales) are included with admission.

For more information and to register, visit www.winterthur.org/spring or call 800.448.3883.

Thanks for mentioning that, Steve, we are all very excited to hear her speak.  And the gardens at Winterthur are glorious.  For photos from past years, click here: http://carolynsshadegardens.com/2016/03/05/winterthur-snowdrop-event/.

The last snowdrop event of 2016 (that I can think of) takes place on Sunday 21st August - the Mid Anglia AGS Bulb Sale.  Specifically, the range of dormant snowdrop bulbs on offer is always good as there are contributions from Rod Leeds, Wol and Sue Staines and others.  I may even bring along a few snowdrops myself this year.  This event already has a dedicated topic so see here http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=13664.msg362576#msg362576  for details.  I've heard that Ruben Billiet is coming all the way over from Belgium for this event and I think Mark Smyth is coming from Northern Ireland so it really is a major attraction for galanthophiles.
Almost in Scotland.

The Mid-Anglia AGS Bulb Sale is always a popular event - nice to have  a reminder here both of the date and the fact that all are welcome to attend!

 Enjoy!
