Just a reminder to everyone that the Highland Show takes place this Saturday 25 April in Nairn Community Centre... We already have an impressive number of entries in Section II - David and I are so pround of the way our local members step up to the plate

Forrest Medal winner - Francis and Margaret Higgins from Berridale, Sutherland, who only started showing with us a couple of years ago.
Regardless of this they come down in a camper van full of plants that are almost as good as this!
Sorry about the pic quality but Sandy and Stan are still on their way home.

Wow, huge congratulations to Francis and Margaret - they do grow excellent plants.
It's especially exciting for the Show Secretaries to have a Forrest go to a  newer name, too, isn't it?

The Highland Section 2 looks super!

Some really big, glorious plants there - I'm guessing a good time was had by all and the Show Secs are well pleased with how the day went!

David there is nothing wrong with your pictures. First of my snaps attached showing the spectacular bowl of Pleione  with its award cards then alongside Peter Semple's impressive Gentiana acaulis which received a merit certificate as did  Andromeda Nikko which also  won the Grouse salver for best ericaceous plant. Appropriately the Askival Trophy or best pot of bulbs went to John Owen who is now the Askival proprietor for his Fritillaria acmopetala.

John also received a merit cert.  for a nice  Trillium luteum badly photographed. Olive Bryers won the Culloden Cup for best Primula in show with P. ellisiae as well as taking the Dunbarney salver for best plant is section 2 with a very nicely proportioned Celmisia. Colinne Souter received the George Roslyn-Shirras Tankard for most points  in what was a very competitive section 2. The best exhibit in section Va  which is not open to exhibitors showing in sections 1 or 2 was Sue Mackintosh's Erythronium.

Sue's husband Hamish received a merit cert for his mini rock garden and the prize for the best pot from a new exhibitor for a white form of Fritillaria meleagris. Then   another picture to show the size of the gentian and orchid which were very large potfuls indeed. Two views of the show hall

The customary tour of the benches starting  with the open section class 1 six small pots then  class 2 three pots different  genera. Then Scottish native plants and plants from specific parts of the world

moving down the bench through geographical areas, hardy succulents to the only saxifrage in the open classes - section 2 had at least half a dozen.

on along another bench though a variety of primulas, ranunculaceae and iris

section 2 was the best in Scotland so  far this year with up to 8 entries per class. We start with the class for 6 small pots

Really lovely show, Well done to everyone. There were some really nice plants that I wouldn't have minded sneaking in the boot of the car. First time that I have managed to get to this show and certainly worth the trip. Thanks everyone, especially the catering, great soup and they couldn't do enough for us. Stan you missed me tucking into the cakes this time  .
