"Stirling" Show in KINCARDINE 21st March
« on: March 12, 2015, 04:28:55 PM »
Last year Beechgrove TV filmed at Dunblane and this became  part of their first 2014 broadcast in April. This gave the club useful publicity and went so well they have asked to film at another SRGC show so  will be at Kincardine. The presenter will be George Anderson who did the interviews at the club stand at Gardening  Scotland over the last three years. As show secretary Sam and his team will have their hands full with the show I am acting  as liaison person and will be with the film crew  throughout the day. Obviously the prize wining plants will be filmed as well as other interesting items e.g. alpine  troughs. If anyone has a plant with an interesting  story e.g. where it was collected from, how it was bred,  please let me know either in advance or on the day. Similarly with any other questions. The programme is again likely to go out in the first week of April.

As we could imagine from the photo yesterday, the RBGE display was well received - Narcissus bulbocodium received a Certificate of Merit
Photos  from John Mitchell

and the display as a whole was awarded a Gold Medal

Congratulations to the RBGE's Alpine Department!

Nick Courtens  ( see his blog here) attended the SRGC Show at Kincardine today - here he is chatting with George Anderson
( formerly of  RBGE) now a presenter of the Beechgrove Garden TV programme - the show was being filmed for a future  programme.

Thanks to Alan Gardner for another pic- this time of Cyril Lafong's  Fritillaria gibbosa which was awarded the Glassford Sprunt award (for the best pot of  bulbs in a 19cm pan)

Glassford Sprunt is a former SRGC President who has had numerous show success himself over the years. Glassford gives freely of his time to the Club in many capacities such as preparing the Index not only for 'The Rock Garden' journal, but  also for the IRG each month.

.....was it not F. gibbosa seen here as part of the wining  small six pan. Cyril's Trillium won both the top award and the trophy  for best non European plant. Best European plant and runner up for the Forrest was Tom Green's impressive pot of a red form of Corydalis solida. Show secretary Sam again took the best Primula with P. allionii Mary Berry.  Your correspondent won the Carnegie trophy for  most points by bringing   most plants.

another view of Alan's successful entries  in Section B. Then  a view of the RBGE display, the gold medal   as well as individual merit awards  for Narcissus bulbocodium and a very attractive white Narcissus x munozii garmendiae. Frazer Henderson  mounted a display about hyacinths which  was awarded a silver medal card.

Watt Russell received a merit certificate for Asarum splendens. His fish box trough is a regular  at the early shows and a good example  of how to do these.  Then a snap  of the man himself with two more of the colourful bulb  benches.
