Sorry to disappoint, Lesley, no plans to go back to the area in the near future, though I guess there will be plenty of other good things to see over the next month or so. The I planifolias start flowering early, maybe as early as December. Some of the populations we saw were in a more advanced stage than those in the photos, but I didn't seen any seed (nor from last year). Also, not sure when the best time would be: need someone local perhaps??? It was fabulous to see all those iris, with the low, late afternoon light shining upon them..........

Paul, sorry, no pic of the white ones - only sporadic ones seen at a distance.

I just can show a white planifolia in cultivation - it flowered here in november. It is just a shadow of the beautyful plants Dave showed in their habitat.

I'm hopeful my seedlings will flower next year. It will be their 5th. Next spring rather, later this year.

Anyone remember me buying a pot of Iris bucharica for £1 from a garden centre clearance sale last April? Well it spent nearly all of last year's wet summer on my patio before I moved it into the greenhouse in late August. In September I decided to have a go at re-potting it and whilst I was at it I split into four pots which all went back on the patio. It was my intention to plant three of the pots into the garden but I didn't get round to it. Here they are today:-

David,

Well I at least remember your $1 trip last year (one doesn't forget frustrating things like that.  ;D).  It's great to see they've done so well for you..... they really are thriving aren't they?  Wish I could find them for a $1 here.  ::)

Really good to see a followup story like this, particularly when involving a marked down rescue plant.  They certainly do look like they're happy with you!!  ;)
Cheers.

And when you stop learning you'll be dead!!  If not physically then mentally!!  ;D

Personally I reckon that rescue plants are even more fun, because you're bringing something back from a certain death.  Something like that that thrives is a job well done!!  :D
Cheers.
